The SoSH community sends our most heartfelt condolences to the friends and family of Dr. Christopher Geary, our own @DaveRoberts'Shoes.

Chris was a valued member of our online family and never hesitated to share his expertise, wit and wisdom with all of us.

He will be sorely missed and our message board will never be the same. Many of us are still numb by this tragic news, but we will be organizing something to commemorate his great legacy.

shocked to see this. Thinking of his family. Really appreciated his posts here--he came off as a thoroughly decent human being with a sense of humor. Can't believe this is real.

If Geary were two different men, they'd both be in the hall of fame. And that doesn't even get to the kind of person he was, doctor, teacher, father, friend. This is devastating news and the world is more impovershed for this loss.

As noted in the obituary, he was an amazing dad to a special needs son, and as a fellow dad of a kid on the autism spectrum, I'd love it if we can fill up the jar with donations made in Chris' name to the charity mentioned in the obit (The Autism Community in Action). Link is here.

Terrible news. In addition to his many fun and educational posts, he was generous responding to DMs, He correctly diagnosed (sight unseen) one of my relatives when I supplied some tidbits of information, thereby providing some clarity when it was truly needed. Thank you, Chris! A stack of $10 bills is headed for TACA.

Just gutted. Never met the man but greatly appreciated his expertise, along the good humor and patience that must be required in dealing with a bunch of online strangers worried about injuries suffered by some other strangers who play sports. Rest in Peace good sir, and my greatest sympathies to his family and friends.

Damn. $10 jokes not withstanding, he took countless time out of his life to help answer questions when I blew my knee up and was scared. I know I'm not the only one there. One of the nicest "internet people" I interacted with somewhat regularly and I feel for those that knew him in real life - their pain can only be multiples of what those of us who knew him digitally feel. Truly a huge loss for several communities.

Always looked for his avatar after an injury, and he would often offer humorous insights from the games. Always good-natured; can't recall any pissing matches with anyone. . And a doctor. Shit. And my goofy ass is still here. Genuine thoughts, prayers, and reflection.

An awesome poster, a decorated doctor, an amazing father, and an all around great human being. His humor, knowledge, willingness to help out friend or stranger is well known around here. He’ll be greatly missed. Condolences to all who knew and loved him.

What a gut punch. Always especially tragic when someone that dedicates their life to helping other people can’t be saved themselves. A true expert, who seemed to genuinely get along with everyone and go well out of his way to share his talent and expertise with as many people as he could. Just awful.

Is the plan to donate as a group or individually?

Stunned. While I didn’t know him personally, his posts were some of my favorite to read on the board as he’d often nail the nature of a player’s injury almost immediately after it’d happen. Thinking of his family. A huge loss to this community and surely many others.

I would say it is weird to be crushed by news of somebody you never met in person passing, but here I am.

Chris was the best of us in ever way.

So very sad. Definitely gone much too soon. I never had the honor of meeting him but I always looked forward to and counted on his insight into players’ injury and recovery. He gave to us selflessly, with candor and wit.

Rest in Peace DRS. Thank you for making this board and the world a better place . You will be greatly missed.

I am very sorry to hear this awful news. My thoughts are with his family.

He was always a gentleman on SoSH and one of our better posters. I'm very grateful for all of his injury opinions whenever a Sox, Pat, Bruin, or Celtic went down with an injury, and I especially enjoyed his story of rushing to the "Papi GS against Detroit playoff game" after the "Kenbrell Thompkins Game".

Awful news and like others have said, it’s a gut punch and must be at least somewhat reflective of what sort of man / human he was that his passing touches so many of us who never even knew his real (given) name.

The smallest of small potatoes, but those shoes will forever be left unfilled on SOSH.

Wow. Just awful. He did a tremendous job of explaining sports injuries in a way that people with zero medical aptitude like myself could understand.

I audibly gasped at this thread title. Rest in peace to a selfless person. I enjoyed his posts here and wish I could offer a firm handshake in acknowledgement of the people he impacted through his work. Ten more dollars incoming.

This is so sad. Too young. Been around here long enough to have members I’ve never met as part of an extended family. Chris sure was one. Rest in love and power, brother.
