    The Bill Simmons Thread

Edit - Column is up: https://theringer.com/kevin-durant-thunder-conundrum-4b1689d4002c#.qo5flnqe4 I am shocked, my guess was he would never write again because he seemed to no longer enjoy writing and/or it was becoming nearly impossible to meet the hype for a "Simmons Column." Seems like a...

    #DFG: Canceling the Noise

From Florio: The league has not yet committed to making any of the PSI information public. However, a source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that the league may be releasing a summary of the data between the conference title games and the Super Bowl. The thought of cherrypicked...

Red Sox to expand netting behind home plate

Sam Kennedy on WEEI paraphrasing: Netting will likely look like current material and "don't hold him to it" but exploring 5-6 feet high - current backstop net is 9.8 feet high for reference. Sox exploring retractable netting to allow fans connection to the field before/after games, but Kennedy...

Sox send Miley to Seattle for Smith (RP) and Elias (SP)

I am happy to learn something today - didn't realize the full 40 man counted against the tax as opposed to the 25 man. In that case you're absolutely right, there are no additional tax savings. There is a reason I've lurked for so many years with so few comments - follow a ton of baseball and...

Sox send Miley to Seattle for Smith (RP) and Elias (SP)

If they option Elias he also would not count against the luxury tax I believe (same situation as Craig), so the true savings to the team is greater than the $7 million because of the 50% tax savings on Elias. Edit: Assuming Sox are over the luxury tax threshold (After Price and barring a big...

David Ortiz will retire at end of 2016 season.

Sorry everyone, I deleted the initial comment. Meant to be lighthearted joke, I had no idea that was the handicap row.

Deleted. Sorry everyone, had no idea this was the handicap row and how insensitive that comment was.

Decent take from the NYTimes, just hysterical to see the comments section on a paper like this. A somewhat elitist take on the usual cesspool...

Agree with this sentiment. Year after year I have come come SOSH to read deep analysis, not quick takes and takedowns of open discussion.   Of course I think the Pats were screwed in a sting, but how are we moving the needle by repeating the same opinions and perspective over and over?

Is a "game thread" going to be created for the Salem State speech or is it appropriate to post here?

    #DFG: Canceling the Noise

NBC has picked this up. It is amazing how much the 24-hour sports media sucks. Just shows how there really is a "code" in every sport and the Jets/Colts/Ravens went over a line here. Seems there are bodies to be found in every league if you dig deep enough sadly.   ...
