    The Iggy-Peavy Trade Regurgitated

Interesting that you left out the next sentence:   "While Montas allowed three earned runs and four hits in two-thirds of an inning, he more than enjoyed himself a year after a knee injury forced him to miss the 2014 Futures Game."   This thread is becoming embarrassing.

    The Iggy-Peavy Trade Regurgitated

So Farrell "assumed that he would give up more" runs, but chose to wait until Peavy got out of a bases loaded, no out, jam in the 4th to make a pitching change. A change which, according to you, had nothing to do with getting Xander in from 3rd with one out in a 2-0 game?   That's really what...

Gammons: "This isn't going to end well"

Right. My point (pretty clearly) isn't to say the Red Sox are playing well and that I'm pushing back against all criticism of the team, my point is to say that Gammons' column where he implies that the reason Miley yelled at Farrell (and, by broader extension of the article, part of why the...

Gammons: "This isn't going to end well"

I agree, but the implication in PWG's post/tweet is that the Red Sox lack a leader like Jones. I find that odd/unfair to people like Pedroia and Ortiz.

Gammons: "This isn't going to end well"

When did Adam Jones become some elder statesman of the game whose professionalism and leadership were beyond comparison? Gammons tweeted about him earlier in the week IIRC.

John Farrell: Not on the Hot Seat

Splitting hairs, but Gomes and Carp has WARs of 1.1 and 1.2 respectively. Peavy's ERA+ was 102. Breslow was fantastic - I'll concede him.    Regardless, I'm one of those who believes in crediting a manager when he gets the most out of his team, and finds its within reason to assign significant...

John Farrell: Not on the Hot Seat

This team lost 91 games last year. I'm not sure who "over performed" other than Ortiz.    To your larger point, the only players who wildly over performed in 2013 were Salty and Victorino. From my perspective, Farrell's managerial history seems to have more under performers than over performers.

John Farrell: Not on the Hot Seat

I've never understood the "All of our players are underperforming, it isn't the manager's fault" argument. If you have a group of players who historically perform at level X, and then suddenly 3/4ths of said players start performing significantly below level X, how is that not in some way the...

I get that. What I was driving at is that I'm not sure I see much upside to him returning to school and trying again next year. At that point A. He won't have pitched in a game in 14 months B. He'll be a college senior. He'll pretty much be obligated to take whatever bonus is sent his way or...

He had TJ earlier this year - how much leverage could he possibly have? He probably won't even be able to pitch next year.

Take Daz, let him go to college. I've talked myself into the 'next year' plan.

Shawn Green and Ted Williams comps from Gammo on Kyle Tucker... pump the brakes a tad.

Can't imagine Bregman ever actually plays for the Astros. Blocked by Correa and Altuve isn't a great place to be.
