It's OK if people know how. Hamiliton does not. Maybe he should learn?
Some guys are just shitty at stuff Maybe this is the best he'll ever do. Like when David Ortiz played shortstop. (Seriously....we all accept that hitting is hard. I think there's a rush to think that bunting is somehow easy enough that any baseball plaeyr can do it),

EDIT: Springer's arm looked surprisingly shitty.

Obviously a good point.

Has to be rough to have the fact that he probably shouldn't be play out quite so emphatically, though.
There is that.

I do understand that bunting against Major League pitching is tough, but I do wonder how much he practices. Al Horford and Brook Lopez learned how to shoot 3’s. Can’t this guy learn how to bunt to add to his value?

Its an interesting question. Think of how many guys *cant* shoot 3s, though. Or foul shots.

Kutter looks pissy about getting the hook.

Good. Dude’s a gamer.

Sure, and I wonder how much some of them practice(pronounced “Ben Simmons”). I’m just amazed by guys like Al who added this skill in the second half of his career by crazy off-season reps. It certainly takes discipline.

EDIT—as would bunting for a guy like Hamilton. It just seems like a good D, no bat catcher would add to his value by adding this skill

He wanted to finish that inning. Don’t blame him though. He pitched well.
I’m dead serious — it makes me happy that he was pissed about getting pulled.

Alfaro with the Rockies...

Alfaro picked up 32 plate appearances, slumping to a .161/.188/.387 line with 12 strikeouts and zero walks.
Scott is the guy most ready to step in, but they don't want to add him to the 40 right now I assume because it's already overloaded.

& they don't care about losing C Hamilton when Reese gets back.

Im not sure where it would go, but this is a good topic.
There's some sefl-selection at work, too. Al and Lopez are excellent players who have had really long careers. These particular second acts happened as other skills slipped. I always wondered if McHale would have gotten better at it had he been healthy enough to play a few more seasons.

For Hamilton, practice time is finite. But what *would* happen if a player went to the batting cage every day all winter, dialed it up to 100 and did nothing but bunt? Could you or I do it?

I’ve long believed that if McHale played today, he’d become a terrific 3 point shooter.

I'm going to assume red-ass Schneider has had enough of Yoshida killing them. 1st base open.

Why would you keep Masa in the game? Get him out and get some ice on that leg.

It would be pretty sweet if Kutter could become what we hoped Kluber or Pivetta would be…a solid #4 or 5. His success doesn’t look flukey when looking under the hood. He simply throws strikes and keeps the fly balls down enough to produce a quality result.

Doesn't even need to wait for winter. They can go to the cage for 10 -15 minutes a day with the machine to work on bunting. It's not like it's a strenuous activity. 10 to 20 pitches a a day.

I'm assuming that for a hitter of Hamilton's caliber 10-20 pitches a day wont help him. (I could be way off, though)
