Well, lost in all the drama this year is the fact that truck day came and went with hardly a notice, aside from maybe a mention deep in a drama-filled thread.
So here it is...Hope.
Yes, I'm a lurker starting a thread. I've been lurking here for some 10 years now - so long in fact, I had to change screen names because the last one didn't make sense anymore (I no longer live in NC, but I wanted to be Marty Barrett when I was a kid). I've come here, often multiple times a day as a source for news, entertainment, but most of all, hope. Yes brothers and sisters, hope. Even the game threads, with all the instant doom and gloom that feels like home, feel so much better when that suppressed hope actually turns into joy. But now, I'm refreshing SoSH to see if there is credible reason to believe I shouldn't root for Mookie's replacement, etc., etc. (WTF?!?).
Look - I think winter generally sucks no matter how many show shoes and and fat bikes I buy. But the approaching end of winter offers a glimmer of hope - a glimpse to the coming warm sun, and pools, the shorts and smiles, the standing in bare feet working a hot charcoal grill near a radio playing the end of the game with a good beer (or beverage of choice) in hand. The start of baseball has also synomously always represented this glimmer to me. Baseball is hope. Baseball is joy, at least at the beginning. And TRUCK DAY is the beginning of this hope. I didn't look to see how many consecutive years there was a truck day thread, but there wasn't one this year so here it is.
It's almost spring training so c'mon guys and girls - let's at least put aside a tiny bit of the drama and get stoked. There are almost GAMES on the TV! REMY, JOE C., BOEGARTS. DEVERS. JD and BENI! Friggin' FENWAY PARK!
To borrow one from someone I hope is throwing out the first pitch in Fenway opening day: "LFG!"
ps. yes, he's face down, and looks exhausted, but he's touching home plate. Score one for the good guys!
