Half the PI calls that Gronk would get now, Rice would have fought through since they were not called as much when Rice played. And the opposite -- If he wasn't held as much as he is, he'd be a 6'7" Jerry Rice who is impossible to tackle.

White's in concussion protocol due to that dirty hit by Gronk. You don't think that needs a suspension or a 1 game suspension that's reduced to a fine?1) IMO, it does deserve a fine. Suspension? Really?!?! Compared to other dirty plays that did not incur a suspension, I think it would be an unfair breaking of precedent.
2) I was disappointed when I saw it happen. C'mon Gronk: you're better than that.
3) Then again, I get the frustration. Doesn't make a bulls!t late hit okay, but more understandable why he did it.
How many Pi calls have been made for Gronk? He’s held every play and the only calls made seem to be against him.. that OPI today was beyond ridiculous.Half the PI calls that Gronk would get now, Rice would have fought through since they were not called as much when Rice played.
Agreed. Doesn't give him the right to drive his shoulder into the guys head when he's lying on the ground out of bounds. How many Pi calls have been made for Gronk? He’s held every play and the only calls made seem to be against him.. that OPI today was beyond ridiculous.
AJ green threw a punch.. no suspension. Ray Rice beat his wife.. 2 games. Based on precedent what Gronk did isn’t close to a suspension.. it’s a late hit/unnecessary roughness.White's in concussion protocol due to that dirty hit by Gronk. I can't believe I have to defend on the NFL on this. There's a a 851 post thread on this forum based on declining viewership, which many point to concussions in and a 716 post thread on concussions, yet Gronk concussing a guy on a dirty play doesn't deserve some time off?
I feel dirty even trying to defend the NFL but that play was a disgrace.
Throwing a punch is not nearly as bad as driving your shoulder / forearm into a guy's head who is lying on the ground. Ray Rice is a lifetime ago and should have got 6 games. Do you really think a 1 game suspension is unprecedented?AJ green threw a punch.. no suspension. Ray Rice beat his wife.. 2 games. How exactly do you think this will be addressed? I agree with your premise, but there is almost nothing the Pats can do to address this, especially during the season. The word is out amongst the refs that Gronk likes to push off at the top of his routes, so they are watching for it. And since it keeps happening, they will keep calling it.Suspended or not, this absolutely needs to be addressed, i'ts been going on for way too long, one season after another. Bad as it was, not all that surprised Gronk finally snapped. Once agian, he was getting mugged before the interception
AJ Green was kicked out of the game early in 1st Q and the NFL used that as part of the reasoning for not suspending him further. Neither player was hurt in the Green//Ramsey altercation either.AJ green threw a punch.. no suspension. Ray Rice beat his wife.. 2 games. No one has said otherwise.Agreed. Doesn't give him the right to drive his shoulder into the guys head when he's lying on the ground out of bounds.
I understand and don't at all disparage your view, but the vast, vast majority of hits like the one in question don't lead to an injury.White's in concussion protocol due to that dirty hit by Gronk. You don't think that needs a suspension or a 1 game suspension that's reduced to a fine?

Eh, how often do those reprisals actually occur?I am not concerned about a suspension. It will likely be for a game, max. I am concerned that Buffalo remains on the schedule, and this will not be forgotten. Perfectly legal tackles can wreck a guy’s knees.
I agree that Gronk’s hit was no worse, but the reality is that Alonso could at least make an argument that he was making a normal play and didn’t see Flacco giving himself up. (I disagree, but the fact is that he did make that argument and the NFL bought it.)Wow, that was nasty -- just saw the replay -- but is it really worse than the Alonso hit on Flacco a few weeks ago?
He needs to be genuinely and publicly contrite. Again. Then he needs to call the guy personally and apologize. If suspended, he needs to accept it without complaint. If he isn’t, BB needs to sit his ass for a half.Agree with dc - trying to hurt Gronk is a real possibility. Hope we beat Pitt and can then afford to limit Gronk next game against the Bills
Let me add to that. Throwing a punch at a guy wearing a helmet is not nearly as bad...Throwing a punch is not nearly as bad as driving your shoulder / forearm into a guy's head who is lying on the ground.
'I disagree with you all, so it's fake news!'That's not a suspendible offense. It was a stupid and egregious play and deserved the penalty and subsequent fine that will come from the league. The faux outrage on this play is over the top.
This is true of what happens every football play. A punch is still a punch and is stupid, but IMO should be treated differently or the same. AJ should've been suspended..but since he wasn't I'm not sure how Gronk is.Let me add to that. Throwing a punch at a guy wearing a helmet is not nearly as bad...
Gronk might have injured the guy's neck/spine on that hit today.
I think the main difference between the Green play and this one is really just the level of success that the aggressor had in inflicting harm. Choke-slamming a guy and hitting a guy late on the ground are pretty close in the grand scheme of things. Gronk is bigger and stronger and his cheap shot did more damage, which may be a bit arbitrary but is also just kind of the way it is.A late hit is still a football play. A punch isn't. The fact that AJ was allowed to walk was a farce. If Gronk is given a game after not getting thrown out today then it just leads to the general obviousness that this is all arbitrary anyway.

On bright side, NBC just showed Marcus Peters throwing the flag into the stands but did not show the Gronk hit.Oh, and you can book 3.5 out of the 4 hours of Felger and Mazz tomorrow to the two of them all but calling for Gronk to be summarily executed for this, baiting Pats fans into callling them and defending Gronk, which of course they will do.
If my twitter feed is any indication, the rest of the sports world agrees with them.Oh, and you can book 3.5 out of the 4 hours of Felger and Mazz tomorrow to the two of them all but calling for Gronk to be summarily executed for this, baiting Pats fans into callling them and defending Gronk, which of course they will do.

Hopefully Rodney. He was king of the spears. On bright side, NBC just showed Marcus Peters throwing the flag into the stands but did not show the Gronk hit.
But maybe they are saving it for a 15-minute segment with Saint Dungy.

Agree with everything except the rookie just trying to play "competitive ball". He committed multiple fouls on that play and was super lucky not to be called for any of the multiple fouls. He absolutely should be suspended for a game.
If he’s pissed about the way he’s being flagged and not getting his own calls, and he doesn’t care about getting hit in the purse, he should put the league on blast after the game in the media. Call them out. Make it a talking point on all the sports radio shows. Live with the fine.
Instead, he concussed a rookie half his size who was just trying to play competitive ball. While the kid was on the ground and not even looking!
Belichick is 100% right - it was a bullshit play and Gronk completely deserves what’s coming to him.
Given the way he was “talked to” last week about his celebration with Cooks, combined with what he did today, he better be careful not to get into “Welker” territory with BB.
This is how I saw it as well.He was likely pissed because he thought he was interfered with on the play and earlier in the day he was called for OPI on a crappy call.
Yes penalty, yes fine, no suspension.
Important distinction which I missed. I think Gronk will get a game at least on second thought, and I agree it would be deserved for what looked to be a gratuitous and violent late hit.I agree that Gronk’s hit was no worse, but the reality is that Alonso could at least make an argument that he was making a normal play and didn’t see Flacco giving himself up. (I disagree, but the fact is that he did make that argument and the NFL bought it.)
Gronk has no mitigating argument. I’ll be shocked if he’s not suspended. And he absolutely deserves it.
