BC is a six point favorite over Syracuse right now.I owe BSF an apology. Kansas nearly beat TCU; gotta believe they'd beat BC handily on a neutral field. So yeah, worst team in P5.

Not sure what criteria you would use, but I think their hoop program is borderline excellent, or at least extremely good. Many programs would salivate to have their W-L records over the last 10 years:Not sure why San Diego State would want Bates. They are trying to move their program from mid major to P5 (applying for Big XII admission like UConn). They have a good, not great hoops program with fmr Michigan coach Steve Fischer running the show and and a football program that is ok. They are a first division program in the MWC but SDSU is very much like UConn.....a big fish in a little pond but totally overshadowed in football by the P5 schools that surround it..
and they turned out Kawhi Leonard. I agree with you - it is selling SD St short calling them a good, not great hoop program. Not sure what criteria you would use, but I think their hoop program is borderline excellent, or at least extremely good. I know it's not the strongest conference, but they've also done respectable damage in the NCAA tournament. Pretty damn strong 10 years
Right. Kawhi is otherworldly, but even if you exclude his time at SDSU, they still have 8 straight 20 win seasons and a 30 win season in there. A top 20 program for sure.and they turned out Kawhi Leonard. I agree with you - it is selling SD St short calling them a good, not great hoop program.
That's astounding to me. Syracuse just beat Virginia Tech on Saturday; VT beat BC 49-0 last month.BC is a six point favorite over Syracuse right now.
They are good, not great, in a very weak conference. They have made the postseason as you pointed out but come up a little bit short most times. I'm not bashing them, I just think they are a bit overrated. Their biggest win was few years ago at Kansas. Not taking anything away form them but with those records you quote, you would think they would be Elite 8 perennials and maybe one or two Final 4 caliber. They have lost 2 NIT finals and been to the Sweet 16 twice. Most times they make the Dance and either lose in the first game or get bounced on the weekend of round 1. Again, a good solid mid major program IMHO, a notch below Gonzaga. Not sure what criteria you would use, but I think their hoop program is borderline excellent, or at least extremely good. So you're saying a Jesuit university is allowed to have a competitive, occasionally outstanding basketball team? I wish someone would tell Leahy this. I thought Ex Corde Ecclesiae banned college athletics and BC was just acting in accordance with it.Again, a good solid mid major program IMHO, a notch below Gonzaga.
No problem , except BC is not supposed to be a mid major program....except it is now.So you're saying a Jesuit university is allowed to have a competitive, occasionally outstanding basketball team? Sorry for the hijack.
But it begs the question......do you really want them to win? In the short term it's great, but in the long term, it will most likely save Dazzler's job. With a win Saturday. there is a road to 6 wins and a bowl, and hence Dazzler sticking around with his inept offensive schemes and press conferences full of cliches and excuses ("gritty, young, tough, young, grinding, young, young and young"), or do you hope for a blow out along the lines of 38-10 kind of thing and essentially proving that the program can't compete in the ACC and, like Purdue did last week, cut your losses and make the move now, ending the Dazzler experiment? Why do I have the feeling that this is going to be a reverse WTF game and we win.
Just a hunch
BC does not play Pitt, and will be a two touchdown dog at NCST. They can beat UConn and should have a fighter's chance at Wake.A 'Cuse win puts them in position to get to 6 wins (possible, and I say possible, wins over NC State and PItt are left on their schedule) and a bowl...
Referring to the Syracuse schedule sir.BC does not play Pitt, and will be a two touchdown dog at NCST. They can beat UConn and should have a fighter's chance at Wake.
And Syracuse is a bad team that is certainly much better than they were the previous year, and look like they are moving in the right direction. Two really bad teams out there. Problem is Syracuse is a bad team with a first year head coach. BC is a bad team with a 4th year head coach.
He is a big guy who has straight line speed, but remarkably poor football sense. That is just 2 baffling plays running the ball. Cost BC 7 on the first drive, now cost them a big first downI've seen enough of Towles. He isn't much of a QB. No field presence. Just a chucker. Is Wade that bad that he couldn't do much better than this?
It looks like they are not prepared. They have quit on their coach. It's time to pull the plug on this bleep show.
That was the most BC play ever. This whole program should nuked. Everyone sucks.I'll give the eagles credit for one thing. They are creative in uncovering new ways to suck on offense.
It's almost like they are doing it on purpose.Daz and his staff just accepted a holding penalty on a play where there was a 9 yard sack. So instead on 2nd and 19, Cuse gets first and 20. Needless to say they score a TD on 3rd down
Yeah, this was a matchup of a couple of bad football teams, in bad weather. You saw plenty of reasons why Cuse is a long shot to get to 6 wins. Their offense is fun to watch, but BC did lull them to sleep at times. Babers really did everything he could to let BC back in the game at the end, I am of the believe that you need to run your offense and try to score with 7 minutes left in the 4th rather than try to kill clockIt's pretty impressive that it's a just a one possession game when you have less than 50 passing yards
Any possibility that Daz wanted to decline and their communication is so poor that they accepted it? Which is just as bad IMHO. Seemed like after SU got the false start penalty on the next play there was mass confusion; maybe about the down.Daz and his staff just accepted a holding penalty on a play where there was a 9 yard sack. At this point I don't believe Bates is an employee of BC anymore. He is still taking a paycheck for a couple more weeks, but I don;t think he has any day to day responsibilities anymore and has been freed to seek other employmentBates needs to go first and you fire Daz this offseason. Give Christian this season to show a meaningful step forward in bball or fire him too.
But it all starts with a new AD because Bates should not have the chance to hire another coach.
Yeah, I don't think it was intentional. I think somehow he was unable to get his message to the officials. Or maybe he didn't realize at the time, but yes clearly immediately after they called the false start on the next snap he was going absolutely ballistic on the sideline trying to understand why it was first down stillAny possibility that Daz wanted to decline and their communication is so poor that they accepted it? Which is just as bad IMHO. Seemed like after SU got the false start penalty on the next play there was mass confusion; maybe about the down.
TV commentators were clueless. Didn't even bring up the odd choice to accept the penalty.
Does that mean he would finally hire Kevin Gilbride as the head coach. Nice idea about TC and I'm a huge fan of his but his time has come and gone, IMHO.Tom Coughlin, eh? That would be a good thing. He'd be able to find a good fball coach at least
Dave Brandon approves this message.I think we need a business person to come in and completely overhaul the entire department. I'm thinking a former CEO of a Fortune 1000 company who has ties to BC. They run the thing as a business and bring in the right consultants to help pick the right BC coach.
Well, I think he wouldn't leave Toys r Us and he technically doesn't qualify since he runs a privately held company owned by a PE firm (KKR). But I like your thinking. I'm thinking that is the way of the future. You need a CEO who can get the right group of people together to overhaul the entire program. It may not have the revenue stream of a Michigan or Notre Dame but $30+ million in revenue is still a substantial sum. You need a business person to run these departments. The days of a former jock overseeing an athletic department has come and gone. It is big business, no matter where one falls in the P5. You need a good solid business person to properly run it.Dave Brandon approves this message.
He is a classmate of my cousin at BC. A Natick guy...like Flutie. I was thinking maybe a Mike White (former CEO of Direct TV) or someone else like that.Phil Schiller know anything about sports?
Not sure you got the joke. Brandon is a Michigan alum who checked all of those boxes, and ran the program nearly into the ground.Well, I think he wouldn't leave Toys r Us and he technically doesn't qualify since he runs a privately held company owned by a PE firm (KKR). The most important attribute for the next AD is the ability to influence Fr. Leahy and his eventual successor. I think we're better off with a Jesuit than a CEO, but either is preferable to an ex-jock who doesn't bring strong administrative credentials to the job.I think we need a business person to come in and completely overhaul the entire department. Where the fuck were you sitting, not in your old seats because there were about 20 of us rain soaked asses up in QQGod help me I'm at this game and I don't know why
