So, what's a realistic timetable here? Start him in Salem and maybe see him in MLB by sometime in 2017?

To be fair, the Sox didn't exactly squander their chances with the IFA pool either. They Yankees blew most teams out of the water but the Sox landed arguably the two best pitchers in the entire signing pool and went well over their budget as well. In any year where the Yankees don't spend crazy money to lock up a half dozen of the top 20 what the Sox did would have been seen as a massive power play in the IFA market.Jed Zeppelin said:It never works out perfectly but the young offensive talent throughout the organization is ridiculous right now, and they'll be adding the #7 pick in June.
The Yankees got a lot of credit for hoarding most of the top IFA talent last summer but I'd rather blow way past the bonus limit with one Moncada over a group of 16 year olds.

No. Devers will open in Lowell or Greenville. Moncada should start in Salem or Portland.bluefenderstrat said:So Devers and Moncada on the same team this summer?
Also probably with Chavis and a real chance to see all three of them on a team with Rijo, Luis Alexander Basabe, and Nick Longhi.bluefenderstrat said:So Devers and Moncada on the same team this summer?

Something like:
1B - Longhi
2B - Rijo
SS - Chavis/Moncada
3B - Devers/Moncada
DH - Devers/Moncada
CF - L. Alex Basabe
Plus if they draft a college hitter at #7 he'd probably start at about the same level as all these guys.

X is coming off his first full season at SS as a colossal failure. I'd like to see him bounce back to be our starting SS moving forward before worrying about who plays this position in 2022-23. Othwrwise we may be looking for a new SS by June 2015.Bowlerman9 said:
By 4-5, you mean 8-9. So yes, he will probably be gone as a 28 year old free agent in 9 years.

Thank you, Mr. Henry.
I think you forgot to attribute this writeup to Baseball America. On a pedantic tip, Tomas has since signed with the D-Backs.jimbobim said:Holy shit. Love it love it....
How good is Moncada? He has more upside than Cuban outfielder Rusney Castillo, who just reached a $72.5 million deal with the Red Sox. He’s better than Cuban outfielder Yasmany Tomas, who’s in the Dominican Republic but is still likely several months away from free agency. If Moncada were eligible for the 2015 draft, he would be in the mix to be the No. 1 overall pick. Gourriel and Despaigne would be safer bets, but there’s no player in Cuba with Moncada’s combination of youth, tools and hitting ability.
Moncada generated excitement in the scouting community in October 2010 at the COPABE Pan American 16U Championships in Mexico, then again in August 2011 when he dominated the 16U World Championship in Mexico, where he earned all-star honors at third base by hitting .417/.563/.667 in seven games.

What forum? I need to check this out.
If you get a relatively similar offer from this team and from Boston, why would you pick this team?
excuse me if i trust the Red Sox talent evaluators over the Yankees.
We would rather spend money on retreads

I want to make sure I understand this. The Yankees are committing to 12 million dollars this year to Drew and Capuano but walked away from Moncada for less that? Someone please help me understand this.
it's better to not try.
Between the Pats win and this signing, there has been no shortage of delicious tears recently. Getting spoiled.Mugsys Jock said:A few NYYFans highlights...

#Yankees offered $25M with willingness to go to $27M which is same offered Jorge Soler who went to #Cubs for $30M
We were already over the cap. So the penalty is mootRovin Romine said:I'm not sure I get this. It's 60 million plus a future cap/penalty for a 19 year old cuban. Sure he's huge and all, but you have to wonder how natural his physical development is.
Maybe that's what this kind of prospect is worth. Maybe the sox have this sort of money to burn. Is he really a blue chip prospect though? Like as good as Andy Marte?
I'm seriously shocked that this was he Yankees offerCorsi said:

I think you start him in CF. You can move him to a corner OF spot as need develops with Papi hanging it up.BCsMightyJoeYoung said:I believe the appropriate comment is WOOHOO!!!!
So where does he start? Portland? And more interestingly .. what position?
Well, Marte brought in Coco; so even if he busts, for now he's another asset (which could make Devers or Margot more expendable). He's also their last chance to bring in a international player of that calibre for just cash for the next two years, since they're already over the intl' signing cap.Rovin Romine said:I'm not sure I get this. @Joelsherman1 So with tax, #Redsox will pay $63M to Moncada or about what #Yankees owe A-Rod ($61M) for the next 3 yrs
