That's a nice trophy for Xander. Happy for Brandon Crawford too, another really good guy. Posey is collecting awards like jelly beans. Madbum will join him. Nolan Arenado is a great fielder, if you get a chance to see him.

Xander's SS SS counterpart, Brandon Crawford, just signed a 6/$75m extension, coming off 2.3, 3.1, and 4.7 fWAR seasons. Crawford was two years from FA, and the deal covers his age 29 through 34 seasons.

I think it is getting towards time to approach Bogaerts about an extension, and this seems like a much, much better market datapoint than the Elvis Andrus deal.

The wrong side of the bridge....
Yeah, WTH is that about?
Evidently there are still some worshipers at the altar of the Great God Batting Average out there. Either that, or they're focusing on the fact that he played in a dozen more games.

It's a worse market datapoint in that Crawford, at 28, has already presumably hit his peak. It's a not unreasonable assumption that the Giants just saw the best year they'll ever get out of him, and they'll be hoping that he can hold steady in the general vicinity of that performance for a few years.

Bogaerts submitted a nearly equal performance in his second full season at age 22. It's a not unreasonable assumption that the Sox will see multiple seasons from him that will be better than this one. If Boras recommends signing an extension equivalent to Crawford's, Bogaerts should sue him for malpractice. (Actually, the more I think about Bogaerts' situation, the more I think he should sue Boras for malpractice if he recommends signing any extension that the Sox would not be foolish to offer. I think we should resign ourselves to the likelihood that he'll be going to FA when the time comes.)

I think that's the best offensive season you're going to see out of Crawford, as scouts never thought he'd have the bat to stick. I would presume he jumped on that offer and a small part of me thinks the Giants may regret that deal. He probably has a good chance to provide that value, but part of the reason you sign those deals as a team is to create surplus value and I'm not sure they will see it. He could certainly maintain for a couple and its proves to be a good sign, but I agree there's no way you see X lock himself for anything close to that figure.

They are paying him like a 2 WAR player for the next 6 years. I think the deal is fair for both sides.
