Yeah, I think the holy roller rules only apply on fourth down or at the end of a half, and possibly only on plays from scrimmage but I'm not sure of that last part.

Clearly the rule is always err on the side of fumble or TD on the field, because that can be undone more easily and is always reviewed automatically.

They showed like 4-5 replays of McCarron when it was obvious even watching the play live that it was a fumble on his part. The only question was whether or not the fumble by the Steelers would stand. Seems like a poor choice of direction from the production truck, not a conspiracy from the NFL to hide bad calls.
