Any vote that is not for the Butt Fumble should be investigated for voter fraud

The butt fumble is hilarious but random.

The Mac pick was tragic and shameful in it's predictability. I started cackling when I saw the ball leave his hand. It looked like one of the failed Wright Brothers concepts trying sustain airflight at Kitty Hawk.

I'm going the Mac pick, but the problem is there are at least three or four others in the last 2 years that are just as bad (that across the field, cross body Dallas pick six, that other pick six, that other pick six...), especially if you're willing to not take score and situation into account imo. Just pure bonehead decision making and middling talent on display all over the place.

That essentially sums up the franchise.

The Butt Fumble was an all time top 10 memorable NFL disaster.

The Mac Jones pick was a bad interception by a bad player that we will all forget by next week. There are probably 50 equally dumb interceptions thrown every year. It is arguably worse in terms of complete ineptitude, but it has none of the features that make the butt fumble funny or enduring. Namely, it had no running into a butt.

A lot of that is place and time. Random 1 pm game it is bad but not as big of a deal. It is not as bad as Chandler Jones play last year that decided a game. It’s worse than this Mac pass, though. I didn’t even think that was the worst Mac pass all year.

This.

There are shit tons of terrible interceptions thrown year after year.

There is only one butt fumble.

Why does Mac keep throwing, not just off his back foot, but with all his momentum going backwards? T-Ball players have better throwing mechanics.

He’s scared.

He’s a big scaredy cat who doesn’t want to get hit.

I’m watching Red Zone and have already seen multiple plays where a QB stands in to take a hit as they’re making their throw. Mac does that very infrequently.

I applaud Mac and his interest in getting us a higher draft pick

The Butt Fumble occurred early in the late afternoon Thanksgiving game, which is probably one of the biggest viewing windows of the year. The Mac throw was bad, but people who don’t know anything about football know the BF.

It is an awful interception, but it doesn't really stick out among all the other awful interceptions that are routinely thrown by the multitudes of crappy quarterbacks in the NFL. It feels like a bigger deal to Pats fans because it's probably the worst throw by a Patriots QB in about 30 years and perhaps more significantly, it's the final nail in the coffin of Mac Jones' NFL career, at least with the Patriots.

Incorrect, it was the night game.

I don't watch the NFL anymore, but the butt fumble is just funny but random. A player got pushed back so fast Sanchez had no chance to see it coming.

That interception is just rancid.

This is what I was alluding to earlier. If that’s a Sunday 1pm it does not have the same reputation
Agree with this, and it also probably doesn’t if Sanchize doesnt fumble with a return for a TD. If he just bounces to the ground for a loss of 3 on the play it would already be forgotten.

Isn't the very next play of the game another fumble for another score? No one really remembers that one. It doesn't have a funny name.

The butt fumble was funny because it was a butt fumble.

I was in Berlin last year and caught some of the Dolphins Bills game on German TV. Watching a game in German was an interesting experience. Lots of words I completely didn't understand, interspersed with the occasional football phrase like "linebacker" and "offside." As some may recall, at the end of the game, the Dolphins were trying to run out the clock, but had to to punt out of their own end zone, and the punt hit a blocker in the butt, meaning that it only went like 15 yards, which almost cost the Dolphins the game. The German announcers were speaking their gibberish when all of a sudden, I heard "Mark Sanchez" and "butt fumble."

I doubt that a German announcer will reference this interception with English words several years from now.

Kickoff return fumbled right into Edelman’s hands for a TD

And right before the butt fumble the Pats scored on a 75 yard swing pass to Vereen

3 TDs in like 30 seconds

I think snatching defeat from the jaws of victory has to count for something. So, I’d take this one and some of those awful game enders from last season

For sure. Even Jakobi’s lateral catastrophe last season, which some folks were adamant would be long remembered as the worst play of all time, isn’t referenced at all outside of Pats fan circles (and I assume Raiders fan circles).

What sticks in the ol’ collective consciousness is a weird dynamic.

I voted Butt Fumble, but it's really the Colts fake punt
This right here.

At some point, some sports website had the fake punt and a cat video synched up. It was one of the funniest things I've ever seen. If anyone has an idea where that is (and shares that information), I'll toss $20 to the Jimmy Fund.

I’m still shocked it doesn’t get brought up more. I think the butt fumble was on thanksgiving and that must have added to its virality?

Mention "butt fumble " to any casual football fan and they know exactly what it is.

2.8 million views on YouTube.

Mention "terrible Mac Jones interception" and the response is "which one?"

The defender, who was a good 3 strides behind Gesicki, had to put on the brakes and fall to the ground in order to make the pick. Not butt fumble level, but yikes.

The butt fumble is far worse. What is so frustrating about this one though is that it is a fucking phenomenal playcall that gets Gesicki wide open…only to have Mac throw the ball short of the defender who was beaten over the top by Gesicki. Like, you shorted the defender who was short of the receiver…with a touch pass. Yikes.

Holy shit, at the 3-second mark on the pick clip, there's an Indy DB at the 11 who almost tips the ball and probably saves the game for the Pats. By that point, Gesicki is about to cross into the goal line. How can a guy who's maybe FIFTY FEET away from the eventual target (and by the eye test, not 7'7") come that close to tipping a lofted pass? At first I thought it slipped out of Mac's hands, but it appears his mechanics were just that terrible.

Still, it was the buttfumble.

#39’s utter shock at what just happened and how possibly his teammate has the football in his possession is pretty great

The Buttfumble is one of my favorite memories as a Patriot's fan. Mostly because it was in the middle of two hilarious touchdowns by the Patriots.

Before the buttfumble, Vereen runs a wheel route and is wide open for a 82 yard TD.
After the buttfumble, on the kickoff Edelman returns the fumble by McKnight for a 20 yard TD.

21 points in a matter of 1 minute.

I think we need a better definition of the competition. In terms of hilarity and virality, the butt fumble is very hard to beat. Was it a technically poor play? Eh, not all that much. It was also a pretty meaningless score. I think Mac’s play should get a boost for the terrible execution, and the fact that it literally threw the game away. Of course, a pretty meaningless game. The Seahawks interception in the SB I think is one of the worst plays ever, not necessarily because of the poor execution but the stakes, the decision, and the fact that they pretty much almost literally gave the SB win away.

Had the hail mary pick 6 happened on Thursday instead of Friday I think we'd have a good page or two more to talk about. I'm still upset I didn't see it live.
