The league desperately needs the following rule changes:

- excessive celebration turned into a team warning for first offense and then a 10 yard penalty on second offense. Also, clarify what the hell will be called.
- PI turned into a 10 yard penalty and automatic first down. There is a material PI in every game now. Some are well called, some aren't.
- offensive holding is a 5 yard penalty.
First one I agree with, but I don't think its really a systemic problem

Second one, pros and cons but also never going to happen. Sucks when a judgment call affects a game that much but the league likes highlight films and big plays and open offenses, they aren't going to put anything in that incentivizes tackling the receiver when you are about to get beat deep. Id rather see the illegal contact rule loosened but that's not going to happen either.

5 yard holding is intriguing but also worry that the game is already offense oriented and 5 yard holding might lead to "just hold every play, they wont call them all".

Maybe 5 yard penalty on holds on run plays, 10 or 15 when it's a pass play? You don't want lineman strategically holding on 5 step drops or when the QB is scrambling deep behind the line of scrimmage.

The last thing the sport needs is more rule changes benefiting offense. Maybe it's residual pain from four years of watching Chandler Jones get mugged on every play but anything that encourages more risk taking there would be a net negative, I think.

PI could benefit from something along those lines though there would need to be some kind of "flagrant PI" to avoid receivers getting tackled on deep balls.

The biggest rule change I want to see is if there is offensive holding there can not be DPI. It is ridiculous that certain penalties that only occur cause someone else "cheated" offset.

How about if you have possession of the ball after a fumble before the officials award it, the team with possession gets to keep it. Just catching up on that blown call in the CLE game. What an awful, terrible call. Makes one wonder with 80% of the $$ in Vegas on CLE +8.

was just coming to post about that call.

Basically the league said, since they couldn't pinpoint the exact second that the RB recovered his own fumble it couldn't be overturned (which is crazy since how could you argue someone else recovered in the 1 second before he easily leaves the scrum with the ball).
Of note, the terrible call by the official who "Saw a WAS player with the ball" (obviously not since at the time the official came in and "saw it" the ball was a yard away from the pile in Johnson's hand) was Sarah Thomas who has unfortunately been absolutely TERRIBLE all year. She's been the official in at least 4 of the worst call/no calls of the year and I've watched only 2 games she reffed.

Edit- This has a better breakdown of just how bad the call was, and that it doesn't in any way match what the league (and league shill Rappaport) said in terms of the call being made before Johnson leaves the pile.

Yeah that's almost as bad as the officiating of the Fail Mary in 2012. On the bright side, officiating is way better overall this season than it was in 2012, but that's really not saying much at all.

Might want to consider throwing the ball to that Beckham guy. Orleans Darkwa ain't going to beat the Vikings.

The Vikings are an impressive and likable team. I hope Bradford stays healthy.

But I think there's so much uncalled holding that you have to make the penalty stiff enough to act as some kind of deterrent. 10 yards kind of acknowledges that they're not going to see it all, but if they get you it's basically going to kill your drive.

when someone is making a catch inbounds like that patterson play, and they leave their feet before making the catch and are tackled before they land, are they supposed to get the ground they covered in the air as forward progress? he never had possession of the ball and both feet down on the right side of the marker.

You are down where contacted unless you break free. Spot wasn't great, but he had the first

The Giants had one of the worst game plans I can ever remember in this one. Let's just throw bombs to Beckham against a team with a killer pass rush.

I'd be surprised if they make the playoffs. Pretty shitty team.

They could easily be 0-4.

That's a reasonable position. I guess, to me, I would like to see tighter enforcement of a smaller penalty, but I see where you are coming from.

Trying to figure out where the first Denver loss wil come is a bit tricky.

host Falcons
@ Chargers
host Texans
host Chargers

@ Raiders
@Saints
host Chiefs
@ Jaguars

The Raiders, maybe, if they get their defense together.
maybe week 8 or 9 right now i see no worst than 11-2 into NE

not going to lose to ATL their def is too weak + at 3-1 might be happy just to play close right now i say 14-2 or 13-3 for denver
