Stop trying to be the one honest cop in the town full of homers, some of you. Irrefutable evidence is the standard. That wasn’t in the fucking neighborhood of that. Who knows whether they would’ve capitalized, and they are completely pedestrian, blah team, at least offensively. And did plenty to earn the loss. But that was a fucking atrocious application of the replay rule. And robbed them of a chance.
Or some of us just are realists? Not in the neighborhood? Do you have a different angle of the making it seem like it was close?

Honestly I'm pretty sure Strange was short, but it does annoy me anyway because they didn't overturn the one on the challenge earlier that seemed at least as clear of a bad spot, and with replay the whole point is to make it less subjective and apply the same standard. Just giving refs more ways to screw up isn't what it's supposed to be for.

it wasn’t close. His knee was down and the ball was a half yard behind the line. You can see the hash right there.
Idk. The reason they get hung up on these is that the angles can get very distorting without nearby field markings. From the angle shown, he was definitely short, but who knows if the camera was actually 90 degrees from the play. I'm sure we would have found another way to not score, but it's a shitty way for the game to end.

Not never, because sometimes there can be half the distance penalties that put the ball on a half yard line for a first down. Or a team turns it over on downs from a half yard line. But other than that, every new series will start exactly on a line.
Ok, so then what happens when on 1st and 10 a team gets 10.5 yards? Pretty sure they don't just call it 10 or 11 and put the ball on one of the hash marks

What a fucking bullshit reversal. What a fucking joke the NFL is. And I'm supposed to pay YouTube $400.00 to watch this shit? Fuck that. Fucking joke.

That sucked but this team is not fun to play. That makes them entertaining. I was here for the Before Times and take nothing for granted so I will be ok with that for now.
The Patriots are probably the most objectively boring team in the NFL. The Titans and Bears are up there but Fields is entertaining in a train wreck sort of way.

I am convinced that many on here never watched the Pats who won games they didn’t “deserve” to win because they made fewer mistakes. This was one of those games.

I think the first was right on the hash and he seems short when his knee hits. Not that conclusive though.
I thought the best point Terry brought up was “it’s in space.” I don’t feel confident I could make a decision either way from the camera angle as I’m not confident it’s showing me where the ball is in relation to the imaginary line connecting the hash marks. I would have stuck with whatever the call was on the field. FWIW, I thought it was short live.

Fascinating. I’m going to be on the lookout for this now.
I mean, it definitely makes sense when you see the same ref mark the ball and immediately motion that it's a first down without really looking too carefully at the first down marker.

But man is it crazy.

The defense is generally pretty exciting, though today they ran a gameplan that was not. The offense is boring af.

Dude, maybe settle down a bit on the tone policing after yet another frustrating loss. The tenor of the thread isn't even that negative considering how the end of the game unfolded.

Agreed that they were bad spots. The only real difference was whether you could see the ball.

The "irrefutable evidence" standard is weirdly subjective sometimes. If someone says they're 6 feet tall but you can easily see with your naked eye from their surroundings that they are 5' 6" at most, but they aren't standing next to a measuring tape so you can't conclusively prove it, is that sufficient evidence? I doubt the rulebook answers that.

So the Patriots are the Russ Courtnall of football. Eeesh.
They are him, they are every player and team who aren't good enough to beat you unless its their best day. However they will always push you and always keep coming.

This team ends up dying a natural death in most games versus teams stomping all over them.

It really boils down to the Pats O-Line is terrible and their D-Line was absolutely porus. The line play decided the game

Ironically, you can kind of see the next couple of weeks playing out like that 2001 season did after being 0-2. Beat NY, lose to Dallas, beat the Saints and Raiders. 3-3.

Now I'm more interested to see where the previous first down had been marked to see if the Pats actually needed to gain almost 11 yards for a first down.

Disagree. The punt block was fun. The pick was impressive. The ending was weird. They made it close.

They’re not a good team at all but all their games seem to have weird shit happen, which is entertaining in a way.

Settle down? I’m speaking about those that seem to forget how the pats won during their run. They didn’t dominate teams.

Kordell Stewart claiming the better team didn’t win Pats WR falling out of bounds before fumbling against Bills.

My point is that the reactions are just goofy sometimes.

I wouldn't call them boring. The offense is objectively better; just hard to do anything when the 5 guys in front are ticket takers.

FWIW, he has always held a special fondness for Russ Courtnall. The guy who “shouldn’t” be any good, but, like, is.
