If that. This is bizarre:Can't be much more than a second round pick protected 31-59.
See, this is where the NBA loses me.Cs open up a roster spot and save some money, Spurs gain a little money and open up a roster spot
They got cash in the deal. Celtics save cap space money, Spurs save actual moneySee, this is where the NBA loses me.
How do both teams save money? If Spurs can waive a guy and save, why couldn't the Celtics just waive him?
Okay, so Spurs carry his cap cost but got actual dollars and Celtics can make the trade for a "worthless" pick in return? They got cash in the deal. Celtics save cap space money, Spurs save actual money
Thank you for breaking it down so easily to digest!yeah so the deal is basically this:
Boston sends Vonleh to San Antonio with enough cash to cover his remaining guarantees. By doing this they save roughly $6M in tax at the end of the year vs. waiving him.
San Antonio gets Vonleh, and the cash, waives him at no cost to them, but save money because they are $16M below the floor, so they spend Boston's cash but get closer to the floor and have to pay out less later.
For contact the Celtics will likely get either a never to convey 2nd or draft rights to some scrub who is never coming over like Robertas Javtokas, who is 42 but they still have his draft rights.
Edit- it's a smart move, Vonleh wasn't playing, and the Celtics were likely to have to cut somebody at some point this year to add a player via buyout or trade, so by doing it this way they save money and gain flexibility. Might see something with Jackson too, his deal guarantees on Saturday.
Yo, he's 6'11" are we sure he's got nothing to offer?????????? Career 48% from three!!!For contact the Celtics will likely get either a never to convey 2nd or draft rights to some scrub who is never coming over like Robertas Javtokas, who is 42 but they still have his draft rights.
Yep. Smallest one they have, but is good for another yearShouldn't a trade exception be created out of this?

And really bad when the games actually matteredVonleh really good in 1 of the 2 preseason games I watched
Could both teams save money if they traded POBOBS to the Sox for Chaim? If Brad didn’t get those 2028 swap rights back, I want him fired immediately.
SA is still below the salary floor, so the $1.5 million is pure savings. They’d have to pay any added salary regardless.View: https://twitter.com/BobbyMarks42/status/1611194717626146816
Boston sent $1.5M, so more than Vonleh and Dieng were owed.
SA ended up netting about half a million in savings, BOS saved $6.6M.
It might be, depends what they do the rest of the year. They may use up to the floor in trades, pretty common for teams to do that by eating deals late in the year or even in the limbo period (like OKC did with Kemba).SA is still below the salary floor, so the $1.5 million is pure savings. I suppose this will also impact their luxury tax receipts as well, but I can’t do that math.
Not sure how 8 - 1.5 = 6.6, but it’s close enough.View: https://twitter.com/BobbyMarks42/status/1611194717626146816

8.092 - 1.5 = 6.592. That is indeed close enough. BTW, isn’t it like 4:45 in the morning out there? Good God man, get some sleep. Not sure how 8 - 1.5 = 6.6, but it’s close enough.
That’s the problem. I did the math on my fingers like, four times and only saw the 900k, not the other 92k.8.092 - 1.5 = 6.592. That is indeed close enough. BTW, isn’t it like 4:45 in the morning out there? Good God man, get some sleep.
You need 92 more fingers or more caffeine - or both. That’s the problem. I did the math on my fingers like, four times and only saw the 900k, not the other 92k.
True, I should have said it's free money if and only if San Antonio stays under the floor, which is pretty rare historically but it did happen last year. (I can't believe the salary cap is so confusing for casual fans!)It might be, depends what they do the rest of the year. And that’s how you pay your own compensation as an executive…View: https://twitter.com/BobbyMarks42/status/1611194717626146816

If they can save $5 million or more in luxtax payments if they dump Jackson, they should do it. If there is any scenario where this team needs to count on him for anything but garbage time minutes, the Celtics aren’t winning a title.I don't really care all that much about Wyc/Steve's P/L, while they make a Championship push. BUT every organization (other than the US Congress) works within a budget. So good work, as long as they feel Kabengele can be called upon to fulfill 5th string BIG minutes.
Does anyone think Justin Jackson is under a similar microscope?
exactly on all pointsIf they can save $5 million or more in luxtax payments if they dump Jackson, they should do it. If there is any scenario where this team needs to count on him for anything but garbage time minutes, the Celtics aren’t winning a title.
I would rather see JDD in garbage time, anyways.
I hear the Spurs have an available roster spot.I think he's more than under the microscope. He's a for sure goner. At minimum they'll cut him before his guarantee tomorrow and go down to 13, but that means his salary to this point counts against the luxury tax. If they can find another trade like Vonleh's, it's like he never played for the Celtics as far as the luxury tax is concerned.
Well, he had that one good game -- was it against Philly? -- where we all got a little excited. But yeah, he's pretty much sucked since then. And really bad when the games actually mattered
