Are the messages emails or system notifications (e.g., a notice when you open a browser?)
If it's an email, don't trust it. If it's a system notification because you have Auto Update turned on, you're OK.
Check to see if you have Auto update turned on.
In Windows 7:
- Click the Start button
- Click All Programs
- Click Windows Update
- In the left pane, click Change settings.
- Under Important updates, choose the option that you want.
- Under Recommended updates, select the Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates check box, and then click OK. You may be prompted for your computer password if you have set one.
For Windows 10, you can do this using the
Windows Update service.
- Go to Control Panel
- Click on Administrative Tools
- Open Services
- Scroll to Windows Update and turn on if not already on.
And as an FYI, Microsoft issues their updates on the 2nd Tuesday of every month.
