The feed has been awful tonight going in and out. Cady also went out with a concussion from the looks of it. St. Bona just seems like they may be a bad matchup for umass

Trailing 47-40 inside of 12:00 left. They're holding SBU to under 32% from the floor overall (14/44) including 25% on threes (2/8), but they're getting beaten on the boards 31-27, and on the O-glass 13-8. The Bonnies have shot 8 more FTs and made 10 more than UMass, shooting 85% (17/20). Turnovers are a 15-10 deficit for UMass.

That three by Andell Cumberbatch, putting SBU back up 4, was his first FG of the night on 8 shots.

Carter whiffs a layup at one end and sits idly by while a Bonnie grabs an offensive board on his face. Kiss the ranking goodbye.

Falling apart again. 7 straight pts for SBU, and now a Putney turnover with 5:48 left, down by 8.

EDIT - Make it 9 unanswered. Down 10. Fuck.

I honestly think umass is really not a great team. They are a good team and one who should make the tourney for sure with the teams they beat early on this season, but I think they may go 9-7 in conference play and maybe 10-6 at best. They are for sure not a ranked team IMO. Honestly, looking at it umass is lucky they aren't 2-4 in conference play after tonight.

Since getting within 1, they've been out-boarded 7 to 1 while missing 4 shots (including 2 layups) and the front end of a 1-and-1.

And finally Gordon breaks the drought. Down 8 with 3:47 left.

I fully expect them to lose most road games moving forward. They are lucky they pulled those games out of their ass earlier this month. I am just not sure how good this team is anymore. But the ride has been fun as hell.

Rebounding is killing them. 41-30 overall, and an embarrassing 19-10 on the offensive glass.

SBU from the stripe: 23/26.

UMass from the stripe: 7/13.

Can't disagree with any of this. Their biggest strength is their press, but it isn't enough. Their only frontline player is Chaz, and he can't do it alone.

Maybe they'll do better with less pressure, although now it's a potential dogfight to make the tourney in position to win a game.

Spot on.  UMass played the schedule game perfectly:  eight non-conference games against against top 100 teams (winning seven) and zero games against the sub-200 RPI killers.  That combination resulted in a superficially strong resume, but when you dig into it it's just not that impressive. By KenPom's ratings their best win is Providence at #45 (the definition of "meh").

GW and St. Louis are clearly the class of the A10 right now (GW's games haven't even been competitive lately--they're getting better and better); VCU is slotted comfortably in the number three position; and UMass has dropped down to number four with Richmond charging hard.  I still think that UMass's non-conference performance is enough to get them a bid even if they go 9-7 in A10 play, but they're not the beast the numbers said they were a month ago and they're certainly not the twenty-first best team in the country.

Looking at the schedule, on the road, I see 2 likely loses in St. Joes and GW and 1 likely win at Duquense and two 50/50 games at RI and Dayton.  So, let's say 2-3 the rest of the way on the road.

It really puts pressure on to win at home.  I can see likely homes wins against LaSalle, Mason, and RI.  Hopefully, they can win at least one of Stl or VCU.  So, hopefully 4-1 at home.

If it plays out like that, they would be 23-7 going into the A10 tournament and pretty safe for a NCAA bid.

Esho leaves after taking an accidental elbow. Looks like he had a sizable lump above his right eye, I think.

Playing a lot better in the second half....really stepped up the defense and creating opportunities.

One thing that they've been consistent with all year....they never stop playing.

The final minute was pretty bad...but still like the continued effort.  If it weren't for the RPI, I'd question if they should have been ranked as high as they were (and that is still debatable).  Some of their wins could easily have gone the other way...but I think the past two weeks are a testament to how good a basketball conference the A-10 has become.
