Is an Assistant OL coach job in the NFL a better gig that OC at a FBS level? I can't imagine it would pay more. What job could a professional football team possibly have offered to him?
Ah ok, I missed that. Then yeah that would be a huge incentive, and no doubt more than make up any loss in earning. Seems like isn't going to happen anywayMike ... The article says he's 3 years from vesting in the NFL coaches pension program. That probably matters for a guy who's 65.
By then, it might be a conference game...Dan Murfman said:No link but UConn just announced a home and away with BYU. First game of the season in '14 at the Rent and following year on 10/31 in Provo.

Michigan east? Looking forward to it. I guess I'll have to have my beers outside the stadium. I actually have a three game pack, so I'll be headed to a three of your games this year. Maryland, Michigan, and Louisville. I don't think the latter two will be close at all.Doug Beerabelli said:The food costs are ludicrous - beer costs same as at Fenway. Priced like MSG or a pro team. Shouldn't be the case with a team like this.
The Michigan game will have more of their fans in stands. Guaranty it.
Doug Beerabelli said:Lots of Michigan fans in the area, so I expected a big turnout by them. What may happen now is that UConn fans fed up with the coaching may sell, too.
sachmoney said:I've already noticed that ticket prices have fallen on StubHub for what it's worth. I don't follow you guys that closely, so I don't really know your depth chart, who graduated, who burnt out, and what not. UConn was, at worst, decent last year. What's changed so much?
OilCanShotTupac said:If UConn had hoped for the ACC or some other conference to come calling, this is not a good way to go about it. Who would want this turd of a program?

Well lets be clear the program was a pretty damn good one, when you consider what they accomplished in less than 10 years.
...
I think the jury is still out on Warde Manuel, but his future at UConn will reside with who he selects as the next coach of the team. The next coach will be the one who either finishes the program off or gives it new life.
Doug Beerabelli said:OCST, that's my concern, too. I think you need to clear house at the coaching level to show they are serious about trying to get into a big conference.
Or, just throw in the towel, rejoin the Big East for hoops (if they'll have us), and move on. But that would be admitting failure.
I don't want D1 football at UConn to fail, but it's becoming apparent that a) the athletic dept. and/or administration are inept on this issue, or b) they don't truly care about the success of the team. With all the money they've spent on facilities, and the good path the team was on up until the last couple of years, that'd be shame to waste it. The Rent IMO is a fine facility, with ability to expand. The football games are fun and convenient to attend from a tailgate experience (or at least were - we'll see what security does in the future). You can avoid the high food and beer prices if you wish, so that's a non issue if the rest of the experience is good.
With a week off, this would be the time to fire Coach Blue, but if they were gonna do it, it should have been last January.
Captaincoop said:It doesn't matter at this point if they hire Nick Saban away from Alabama, UConn Athletics is screwed. The time to make the right coaching hire was in 2011, coming off a Fiesta Bowl and with some conference options still alive.
The only good option now is to kill the football program and join the Big East. The administration will eventually accept that, it's just a matter of how painful things have to get first.

Yes, the time to make the right coaching hire was after the Fiesta Bowl. No, that doesn't mean it's time to throw away the football team and the >10 year investment that CT has made into it. As we've seen with coach blue, one coach and a couple of years can make a world of difference.

That investment is a sunk cost now. There is no way out of this situation at this point.
As a UMass alum, we would kill to have a facility like the Rent on campus in Amherst. Clean house with the coaching staff and go from there.Doug Beerabelli said:OCST, that's my concern, too. It's definitely a sunk cost. It's definitely not a death knell for the program to have 2 straight 5-7 seasons under some terrible coach. Not even 3 or 4 straight. It's certainly a bad bad time for this to be happening, but it's not a death knell. You know how you get out of the situation? You get a new coach who can recruit better.
Well at least you can still root for BCCaptaincoop said:Yeah, and then what? There is no revenue stream to be realized for UConn Football. In the most optimistic scenario, they fire Pasqualoni this year and have a good football team in 2015. And they're in an even worse conference (East Carolina and Tulane replace Louisville and Rutgers by then), and the BCS schools have made their move without UConn.
