6 years is not that much for a 25 year old, but for 44? There's a reason not even kickers are around at that age, even when they are still good in their mid 40s.I'm not so sure it sounds completely ridiculous any more. He'll be 50 in 6 years.

I think with Peyton it was his legs. He still set the TD record with a noodle. Then he hurt his quad and that was that. What seems to have done Brees/Manning in was their arm strength went totally caput. If Brady can avoid a costly injury that impacts that, he could play for several more seasons. His playing style minimizes the impact of declining athleticism, and he make up for a lot of it with his intelligence.
Yeah, but the multiple neck surgeries really limited him. He needed an ideal situation with a good offensive line, quick receivers and basically never taking snaps under Center. I think he could have gotten by (further) limited mobility if he still could sling it.I think with Peyton it was his legs. He still set the TD record with a noodle. Man, it's hard to imagine Brady still playing at 50. That is really far away. I guess it could be possible if he doesn't get a bad injury and he can keep in shape. If Brady plays until 50 and is even just slightly above average, his records will be in Gretzky territory as far as their likelihood (or lack of) to be broken.
But honestly, you really couldn't blame Belichick for not foreseeing that Brady could play like this to age *FIFTY*. I mean, come on.If he does that with success, BB letting him go at ag 42 will harken back to Dan Duquette's decision not to re-sign Roger Clemens because he was in the twilight of his career.
He’s avoided one for the last 12 years, we’ll see. It’s injury that will claim him. You just don’t recover the same when you’re older. I think it’s hard to predict when he will be done because he will probably be great until he suffers a major injury. Which isn’t a very interesting point to debate but the odds of him avoiding a major injury all the way to 50 must be incredibly long.
It very well could be a specific injury, but it could just be to say to say (week to week) recovery that claims him. It’s injury that will claim him. You just don’t recover the same when you’re older. I mean he surely was until discovering HGH. How was Duquette supposed to predict that?If he does that with success, BB letting him go at ag 42 will harken back to Dan Duquette's decision not to re-sign Roger Clemens because he was in the twilight of his career.
It was the 90s, nobody cared, Duquette should have been encouraging him to do steroids.I mean he surely was until discovering HGH. How was Duquette supposed to predict that?
Gordie Howe scored 15 goals at age 52 (in the NHL after the WHL)Bernard Hopkins was a legitimate title holder at 49/50. Why not?
I mean if Mac Jones is a stud and people want to excoriate BB for not thinking Brady could be elite until age 50 after he had shown decline at age 42, I guess I will personally give him a pass…If he does that with success, BB letting him go at ag 42 will harken back to Dan Duquette's decision not to re-sign Roger Clemens because he was in the twilight of his career.
Coincidentally, the 2007 and 2010 Pats were the two best offenses in NFL history by DVOA.So the Bucs just won their 9th straight game scoring 30 points or more. This is an NFL record, breaking the three way tie with the 2007 Pats and the 2010 Pats.
Imagine if TB’s undefeated season was…with Tampa at age 45 instead of with the Pats? Insane.I'm sure this has been observed already, but the Tampa schedule is shaping up to be a cakewalk. Assuming Carolina being 2-0 is a mirage, TB's three toughest games left are Rams, Pats (which happen the next 2 weeks) and Bills.
I think this is the year Brady finally goes 19-0.Imagine if TB’s undefeated season was…with Tampa at age 45 instead of with the Pats? Insane.
I think that Rams game could get really ugly for them.If I were a Bucs fan I would be worried about that defense.
I hope it happens. Brady is basically like rooting for the NFC Patriots. Best winner of all time? Best career? Best statistically? Leave no stone unturned. Take it all.Imagine if TB’s undefeated season was…with Tampa at age 45 instead of with the Pats? Insane.
Seems ripe for the early season blowout that people overreact to. Very few teams should be able to hang with Tampa. Rams may be one of the few who can. This will be their SB.I think that Rams game could get really ugly for them.
Pretty sure he’s already there.I hope it happens. Brady is basically like rooting for the NFC Patriots. Best winner of all time? Best career? Best statistically? Leave no stone unturned. Take it all.
I think in the current state of the Bucs secondary a lot of teams can hang with them. They did this at times last year too, people just forgot all about it because they were great in the Super Bowl. If that front isn't getting pressure immediately, you can throw quick on them all day and I expect teams to do that every week from now on. It's kinda crazy that Brady at 44 might be asked to carry a team through shootouts but I think there's a chance that'll be their reality for much of the season (in the games their front seven doesn't completely wreck everything, which will come as well).Seems ripe for the early season blowout that people overreact to. Yup. Fair points. Sadly, I don’t think the Pats are equipped to be one of those teams. Tampa D makes a lot of flashy plays but a good offense can definitely score on them.I think in the current state of the Bucs secondary a lot of teams can hang with them. Nope. Hes not there until there is a TB12 scorched into the 50 yard line at every NFL stadium.Pretty sure he’s already there.
They barely beat Dallas and we're up by 3 in the 4th vs a not good Falcons team...that is two bad to average teams hanging with them.Seems ripe for the early season blowout that people overreact to. You forgot Barry Bonds. To anyone but the biggest of dunderheads, Tom Brady is the greatest football player of all time. The question now is: Where does he rank among the greatest team sport athletes of all time?
The short list of possibilities, IMO:
Babe Ruth
Michael Jordan
Wayne Gretzky
Bill Russell
LeBron James
Tom Brady
That to me is the short list. Combining individual performance with team achievements, these guys have it all - tons of awards, dominant stats, and lots of championship hardware. I'm sure I'm missing the greatest soccer player ever though I don't know who that would be.
I can see it now. Next Sunday, with Brady at 450 yards, his next pass is a screen pass at the 50. The receiver breaks free and is heading towards the end zone. Brady, realizing that if the guy scores, he will top Brees’ record, sprints downfield at blazing speed to tackle him at the 1 yard line. Every subsequent offensive play Brady just decides to take a knee. Of course he wants to break that record in Foxboro!Brady is 499 passing yards away from passing Brees for #1 all time. Which you think means he will do that in the game against the Pats.
It’s unfair to include a championship requirement when ranking baseball players, but if that’s a requirement for this ranking, Bonds doesn’t make the list. 2-7 in postseason series, with both series wins coming in 2002 before losing in the WS.You forgot Barry Bonds.
I’m expecting a team with the GOAT at QB and their defensive talent to improve at a greater rate than most but, yes, we’ll have to see how things progress. The Cowboys have a ton of offensive talent so that wasn’t too surprising for me. The Falcons game was more surprising but that was pretty much all on the D. The Bucs did whatever they wanted on offense against the Falcons but the D wasn’t good. If it continues to look like that, then the number of teams who can compete with them will greatly expand for me. I never once thought the Falcons would actually win that game but that’s another story. They barely beat Dallas and we're up by 3 in the 4th vs a not good Falcons team...that is two bad to average teams hanging with them.
No I didn’t. He doesn’t have the championships these other guys do. Obviously he has individual chops but not team chops. You forgot Barry Bonds.
In baseball? I mean ok.No I didn’t. He doesn’t have the championships these other guys do. Obviously he has individual chops but not team chops.
I have a feeling that Brady will get a lot of TDs inside the 5 like the 1st and goal to Gronk yesterday. I got the sense that the Pats would run if they thought it gave them the best chance to score but like Manning had a bunch of those really short TD passes because, why not, unless Butler drops into coverage.Barring an injury, Tom Brady will throw 60 td passes this season.
