Broudeur is a fraudFigured this deserved a bump while I was playing with pinned threads. Anyone got any other suggestions?
I really liked the "special teams adjusted goals against per 30 shots number" part - it seems to identify the best goalies from last year quite accurately in my estimation.
Except that it's a totally bogus number. I appreciate that teams spend more time at even strength compared to on the power play, but goals scored against while down a man aren't suddenly worth four times as much. What possible reason could there be for deciding to do this?I really liked the "special teams adjusted goals against per 30 shots number" part - it seems to identify the best goalies from last year quite accurately in my estimation.
Putting this in here as the article links to a bunch of really good sites and gives a nice run down of their features too. Like, I didn't notice the Compare button that you can use to get bubble charts for players on different teams on Extra Skater.cshea said:If anyone is looking for a primer on hockey analytics, Scott McLaughlin posted an excellent piece on week.com. Well worth a read.

For a 40-plus-page thesis, I think he talks way too little about the role the curvature of the blade (or lack thereof) has in playing the puck effectively on the backhand. A right-tool-for-the-job kind of thing. Anywho, kudos to that kid for being able to turn it into a school project.TheShynessClinic said:So this is long, but pretty interesting - especially for those of us who play, or continue to play:

A student wrote his masters thesis on the backhand shot in hockey - applications, technique, drills - etc.
The backhand shot is probably the hardest to execute in hockey, as it's incredibly unpredictable coming off the blade. That also makes it one of the most dangerous shots, goalies don't have much of a chance beside guessing on a well executed backhander.
FYI hockey-reference now has advanced stats like Corsi, Fenwick, etc.TheStoryofYourRedRightAnkle said:http://www.hockey-reference.com/ is a good statistical reference. I'm not sure what other sites people use for stats besides nhl.com or espn.com.
