That guy is awesome. The perfect Boston guy to be a coach on this team.cshea said:Another DYJ promo....Ernie!

And Al Michaels' call of "Beast Mode's" run suggests he thought Marshawn was getting in. I thought the same and almost wish he did (wanted uS to have a minute left to tie at least). Well until Butler next play...Laser Show said:I just watched the full highlights of this for the first time in the while and holy shit how did we win this game?
The Lynch run right before the pick is still terrifying to watch.
I guess that pass play was okay for PC to call without catching hell.Old Fart Tree said:Well, they dominated all but the third quarter. That goofy td to end the half masked that. ...

Meh, it's not mutually exclusive. Both were lucky. Pats for Pete Carroll, Seahwaks for Kearse's knee.Seagull said:I've had a number of discussions with folks buying the narrative that the Patriots were "lucky" to win the SB because of the goal line play call. I suppose, there's always an element of luck, but sometimes luck is the residue of design. The Patriots created their own luck in this case. In any event, my point within the context of this thread is that the national narrative that the Patriots were lucky to win the Super Bowl is pretty much a way of stemming the tears.kenneycb said:Meh, it's not mutually exclusive. I thought that was a heck of a gamble, and a great payoff, to go for that TD at the end of the first half. That call worked for Carroll. The play call at the end of the game did not. Both were good aggressive plays. Live by the sword, die by the sword.Old Fart Tree said:Well, they dominated all but the third quarter. That goofy td to end the half masked that.
The Baltimore game, if you want to talk about a game they had no business winning, on the other hand...

Well, Bennett did force Brady into the throw. It was similar to the horrible throw he made in SB 38. If Brady eats it, Ghost is kicking a FG and it's probably 3-0. On the other hand, the INT led to Tharold Simon's SB introduction.PedroKsBambino said:
The goal-line interception the Seahawks had in the 1st quarter was far more lucky---you see Brady miss like that in the red zone very rarely. The defender didn't make a great play or anything; it was just a pure break for Seattle. People forget that end-zone INTs were 1-1 in that game, not 1-0
I can't wait for September 9th. BB is amazing and I love how he trusted his gut in that situation.staz said:"I looked over there and, I don't know, something just didn't look right."
Pete Carroll, calling the shots?
It's crazy how much Caserio's voice sounds like Bill's.Ed Hillel said:Here's a new DYJ preview about BB and if/when he'll retire:

There just aren't that many goal line situations. The Patriots defense had only had 13 plays all season where the opponent started on the 1 or 2, and 3 WR is kind of an unusual formation for that field position. They probably wouldn't use it against every team - they have to really respect the offense's run game, and not be too concerned with the TE - but I'd be surprised if it was something they put in just for the Seahawks.staz said:
I remember thinking there had to be some sort of reason why he let the clock run, yet I was drawing blanks when it was unfolding. In the time since, I had sort of chalked it up to the the fact that, however fragile, we still had the lead with 0:30 to go and running - and that was a better position to be in than giving the offense the ball for 2, maybe 3 plays.
But, they put that personnel group in (for the first time all year!) for a reason, right? I bet Carroll tipped his hand somehow, and BB is being coy about it just "not looking right."
I feel like this has been talked about... maybe by BB? But my feeling at the time was that Carroll was expecting BB to call a timeout to set the defense. That would give him two plays and a ton more options. I feel like that's what almost every coach would do in that situation. When BB didn't call a timeout all of a sudden the options shrank to three or four or maybe even fewer.staz said:

In the most unlikely of situations, BB, the ultimate troll, trolled the Seahawks and they panicked. Brilliant!lars10 said:I feel like this has been talked about... maybe by BB? You pass to get two shots or you run and hope Marshawn gets in.. because you may not get another play. I think not calling the timeout put that time pressure on the Seahawks that they weren't expecting. They were running out the clock to put the pressure on the Pats and BB reversed it and basically said..FU, score then with no timeouts.

I'm guessing Seattle runs the ball..speedracer said:
I'm guessing this year Seattle puts in a counter where the receiver fakes the slant and cuts wide to the flat.
I'm not so sure...because last year they didn't have Jimmy Graham. Their options on the goalline got a wee bit more dangerous.staz said:I'm guessing Seattle runs the ball..

Yeah, some of the holier than thou attitude in the last main thread was sickening. People saying things like "just stop" and berating others, as if they *know* exactly how Kraft and the Patriots organization would respond. I didn't say anything but people need to get a grip on their telepathic abilities.RoyHobbs said:Not sure where to put this -- someone hypothesized this in one of the umpteen threads and got slightly flamed for it, but Jonathan Kraft just said in the radio pregame they were not going to raise the banner without #12.
http://www.theplayerstribune.com/akeem-ayers-rams-super-bowl-patriots/To get traded to New England was just unbelievable. I had heard about the culture of the team — the intense preparation and complete focus — but I didn’t really understand what that meant until the first week I was there. New England prepares with the expectation of winning. You go there as a player and you know the tradition they have, the players they have and the mindset they have. Anything other than winning is simply not an option. And I can see how they’ve maintained such success over a long period of time. When I arrived, I just had to follow everyone’s lead. The organization runs like a well-oiled machine.
