The San Francisco Chronicle has a feature on the Kevin Youkilis craft brewing venture:

Kevin Youkilis, an infielder who won two World Series rings with the Boston Red Sox during a 10-year Major League Baseball career, wants to become known as much for his IPA as his OBP (on-base percentage).

With several partners, including former Oakland A’s infielder Nick Punto, Youkilis bought, refurbished and reopened the iconic Los Gatos Brewing Co. as the Loma Brewing Co. He is realizing a dream he had while playing ball to create and sell beers that are more tasty and creative than the offerings from Budweiser, Miller and Coors sold at ballparks in which he played.

So far, so good.

One year after Loma opened, it won 2017 California Commercial Beer Brewery of the Year at the state fair by virtue of two gold medals and a silver for three beers that it entered in competition.

“I’m not going to lie to you,” Youkilis said. “It was up there with winning the World Series, just the high we had from that.”

He has help. His brother Scott is an amazing chef and great guy. He has a few different restaurants in San Francisco, all great.

No doubt Punto is lobbying to get a Headfirst Into First unfiltered Pale Ale added to their lineup preferably in the lead off spot where it can show its true grit.

Anyone had a Loma brew?

I had it a few years ago, I went to his restaurant/brew pub while on a business trip, and it was pretty good. I told the waiter that I was from Boston and wanted to know if Youkilis was around, blah, blah, blah. He replied that Youkilis wasn't there that night, but I had just missed Tom Brady by a few hours.

Other than that, the food was good and the beer was good too. It's a good place to stop off and have a few.

I was there last year for a work event - beer, appetizers (onion dip and sliders were memorably good), and food were all very good. And yes, they did have a "Greek God of Hops" IPA

I was in Salida, Colorado, a couple of summers ago and discovered a number of microbreweries, including one with its own pizzeria. Or was it a pizzeria with its own microbrewery? Whichever it was, it served excellent pizza and very good beer. And there was another similar establishment a few blocks away. They both seemed to be doing well, but I doubt they distributed.

But did you take them seriously?
