A merciful ending to Pats' playoff hopes.
A game goat for everyone, including BB for assembling a truly below-average squad.

They were a contender.Fans expecting to be a contender in perhaps the biggest transition year in team history
Should we shoot them? Hang them? Perhaps a public humiliation. The nerve of them.Belichick family
The reason the D got exhausted is because they were awful and couldn't get off the field. The Dolphins only had the ball for 9 drives, but those 9 drives took up 37 minutes. That's staggeringly awful. The run D started the year bad, seemed to kind of right itself in the middle of the season, and the last two weeks has been worse than ever. The D wasn't great but they clearly got exhausted since the O didn't keep the ball at all early
Is there film out there on them? I know the production has been nil, but is it on them, or perhaps Cam has something to do with it.This rookie class has been great with the exception of the TEs. I know it’s a tough position to learn but man these guys are awful so far.
Miami had basically no one to throw the ball to, their offensive line was tire fire and they lost a starter during the game, yet they steamrolled the Patriots defense, that was embarrassing to get rolled like that. The reason the D got exhausted is because they were awful and couldn't get off the field. He has his work cut out for him, but average drafts (not sensational drafts) will do if accompanied by smart FA signings/trades with cap-strapped clubs.Miami had basically no one to throw the ball to, their offensive line was tire fire and they lost a starter during the game, yet they steamrolled the Patriots defense, that was embarrassing to get rolled like that.
This team has too many holes to fill with one draft, they'll need to have two very good to great drafts to fill the holes they have at QB, TE, WR, DE, OLB, ILB and by the time they fill those holes, they'll have holes at OL, DL, CB and Safety.
Belichick the GM has his work cut out for him.
You are correct, he's going to have to get creative with trades and free agent signings. He has his work cut out for him, but average drafts (not sensational drafts) will do if accompanied by smart FA signings/trades with cap-strapped clubs.
Your overall point is right about QB's, but come on with this. You are correct, he's going to have to get creative with trades and free agent signings.
As we saw this year, their future success will depend largely on what happens at the QB position.
They gambled with Newton.
And lost.
Miserably.
Actually my point was they gambled/took a shot with Newton and lost; if he had something, anything left in the tank it might have turned out differently.Your overall point is right about QB's, but come on with this.
You are basically complaining about someone who had a dollar to bet and put it on a lottery ticket instead of stale bread.
The idea that they could have done something better at QB this season is stupid.
Ok well then nevermind, I 100% agree.Actually my point was they gambled/took a shot with Newton and lost; if he had something, anything left in the tank it might have turned out differently.
You are totally correct in that in reality, they really had no other viable options.
I love the guy as a person and a human being and I really wanted him to come here and light the league on fire, it's sad to see how far he has fallen, his throws either bounce on the turf or sail over the receivers head, virtually no touch on the ball at all.
I hope for his sake he retires after this season.
Sorry that I was not clearer with my first post.Ok well then nevermind, I 100% agree.
FWIW, I saw somewhere yesteryear that Asiasi lost his best friend early in the season. I think it was the Bills game that he missed due to personal reasons which presumably was due to the close death. That's probably where any focus issues stem from.Way too early to write off the TEs. They both missed a chunk of the season, and when they did play, you can count on one hand the number of on-target passes they had thrown to both of them combined.
Some negative reports on Asiasi's focus concern me more than what we saw on the field. But I wouldn't write either of them off yet, let alone both. They could use a veteran in the group, though. A FA signing would make sense.
I've been pushing this for a while. They have some nice pieces in the next levels of the D with Uche and Duggar - love their speed and Uche's close on Tua early on was thrilling. One big active DT alongside another immovable slab would make a world of difference particularly if DH comes back and has anything left.A big, disruptive DT is my top draft wish for this team. That is a spot where a rookie can make a huge impact and they need it badly.
This. The team wasn't very good last year but the secondary, some decent LBs and Brady held things together. Without Van Noy, Collins and Hightower and little cap room to add to the offense 7 wins (assuming they beat the Jets) is more than I was expecting.Fans expecting to be a contender in perhaps the biggest transition year in team history
Hernandez and Gronk had 87 catches and 16 TE combined as rookies in 2010. I agree there are holes all over this roster but TE is a black hole, these guys have been uncompetitive and LaCosse and Izzo are not the answer. I think they just need to bite the bullet and bring in an experienced guy with good production like Henry or Smith. Not concerned about the TEs one bit. I think the draftniks calling for the Pats to pick up another one is quite silly, especially given the number of holes this roster needs filled.
The DL is another story. I can't recall the last time they consistently collapsed the pocket, especially up the middle.
I'd be happy to go get a stout DL with the first pick & sign at least one quality starter through free agency.
Not necessarily a bad thingNobody.
Took home my rather large Pats Under 8.5 wins bet with this loss, so thanks NFL and Vegas. Sometimes you make it easy. Honestly, the Pats won 2 more games this year than I thought they would. The team is going to be unrecognizable from a personnel standpoint in about 7 months.
