I hope so, since they'll need to re-sign or replace their top two LBs (Collins and Hightower), two of their top three DEs (Sheard and Long), a starting DT (Branch), their nickel CB (Ryan), a backup S (Harmon), a starting OT (Vollmer), their top-two 1st-down RBs (Blount and Bolden), their starting FB (Develin), a sometimes-starting OT (Cannon), a sometimes-starting TE (Bennett), and possibly their restricted free agents that include their top CB (Butler), their starting C (Andrews), and a sometimes-starting OT (Fleming).

In short, on offense: 4 linemen, 3 RBs, and a TE; on defense: 2 LBs, 2 DEs, 2 CBs, a DT, and a S.
They are obviously not going to sign all of these players back. I would expect that they will try to draft Vollmer's replacement high in the draft. RB's are fungible and can be plucked off the street cheaply. Logan Ryan and Duron Harmon are going to make considerably more money on the open market than they would here and I'd be OK with somebody else giving them a big contract. The priority for me is Collins/Hightower/Butler/Sheard/Long/Andrews.

Certainly, but those who aren't re-signed need to be replaced. It will be great if a lot of that talent can be replaced cheaply, but I expect much $s will need to be spent.

They have like $60-$65MM of cap space after rollover and some fairly straightforward ways to save cap space (Solder $11.2MM figure/extension candidate, Amendola $7.9MM with only $1.3MM of dead money). They can lock up most of that list if they so choose/can agree to terms. There's not a lot of bad deals on the books for '17.

If he continues to play as he has, and there's not much reason to think otherwise, I add Unicorn to that list as well. As we have mentioned in this thread and elsewhere, the Unicorn/Gronk combo is devastating. Then factor in the Gronk insurance aspect and he's a big priority for me.

Replace RT and RB in the draft.

I had said upthread that he's a franchise tag option. The names I rattled off were from dbn's list. Apologies if I didn't make myself clear.

Isn't that just due diligence? They all play for big schools that likely have multiple pro prospects so I'd hope we have folks there in person.

I saw it mentioned and will have to look it up that they were specifically there to look at the RBs. Usually is due dilligence but with the RB situation going forward I'd have to say that there probably will be turnover at the position. Not sure how I feel about drafting a RB in the top 2 rounds but somebody like Dalvin Cook would fit in real nicely in this offense.

I like Blount more than most here, and I think Bolden is a great fit for any team (such as the Patriots) that prioritize special teams, but neither are RBs worth paying much for. If either/both are willing to re-sign for acceptable (from the team's perspective) deals, I'd be glad. Otherwise, yes, time for some turnover.

I'll just add that I'm not forgetting about either White or Lewis, but both are only signed through 2017 and neither is a typical 1st-down back.

I'd be really surprised to see Blount go elsewhere after what happened with Pittsburgh.

Unless someone gave him an absolute ton of money.

Blount is turning 30 in December so nobody is going to offer him big money. He's basically the Patriots' Tim Wakefield. Provides great value, you know what you're going to get, we can basically renew his contract on our terms in perpetuity, and people are always going to be on the lookout for something "better".

On it's face what you state makes sense. However at some point for another GM moves that subtract from the Patriots are valuable even if it is a lateral move for them.

If teams are making moves with the Patriots in mind, Belichick has already won. You never know what the Patriots are going to do. None of us had any idea Dion Lewis would be such a key cog before his injury last year. If some team like the Steelers decided to overpay for Blount, Belichick would shrug his shoulders and move on. Shoot, he may move on anyways. And RB is the most fungible position in professional sports. I think this is one of those situations where Blount has more value to the Patriots than he does for anyone else.
