I dont get that. IT is a very good PG on what might be the best deal in the NBA, and point guard's an extremely deep position. What's the deal that makes giving him up worthwhile? Also, 27 is young. He's got plenty of athleticism left.

It's the size thing, the smurfs just don't last in the NBA, so he might have another 3 years left before a big drop-off. I think they'll contend in his timeline, but I also think that he's available in trade precisely because his contract makes him a fantastic buy.

Don't get me wrong, I love Isaiah and the short-term juice he's given the franchise. I just think he's maxed-out as an NBA player, and what we could get for him would be more than what he'll give us as he turns 30. And once a 5'9" guy loses a step, isn't it pretty much over? Unfortunately 27 is older than we'd like to admit in today's NBA. When was Dana Barros's last good season?

I think we should keep punting for a bit. Our next great team will include very few of the current roster IMO. The core will be the next three lottery picks we have (plus Smart, Bradley? KO? Rozier? Bender? ect).

Still impressed with how far we've come in such a short period of time. When Paul and KG were traded I thought we were in for 5 years of druck. The key now is what to do from here.

Also likely to shorten IT's useful career is that his game depends upon mixing it up with the bigs under the rim. He takes a lot of punishment doing that, which will shorten his career. It would be different if his game were shooting 3s at will, but it's not.

I am with EHH in thinking that the Celtics' real renaissance won't occur until the bountiful harvest of draft picks matures into a real team. That won't happen until Jae Crowder and IT are past their primes. It's like watching a shake grow by shedding its skin. The current roster is pretty to watch, but it will be gone before the real jewel emerges from the potential that is available in all those juicy draft picks.

Trades may accelerate the process but the dynamics don't seem to favor that outcome. The other teams know that the Celtics are choking on draft picks and thus the aren't going to bid much for them. Danny isn't going to give them away, so it's my guess that he will be patient and build from within.

I don't disagree on Isaiah's long term prognosis in 3-5 years however I can't see a scenario where he goes anywhere this summer. Wyc/Ainge have committed to making Isaiah the face of the franchise for the time being in having him represent us at the lottery and give him the go ahead to recruit players this summer. He's also on a dirt cheap deal.

If you are going to trade IT, and I agree its not off the table, you need to get a better offensive player in return. By that I mean you cant sell him off in a depth trade, for a rim protector or for picks. We saw what happened to this offense once they lost some outside shooting, now imagine what it would be like if they lost the 1 guy who can consistently create shots on his own and force the opposing defense to switch and react. They would be abysmal.

No, I think it's pretty clear that the sort of deal where he'd be available are deals for the Jimmy Butlers and Paul Georges of the NBA.
