Somewhere, Skrub just grew another set of wings. The one labeled pre-FA? I assume that would give way to a new FA thread. Since deals are leaking here ya go.
Mods, if we're multipurposing off season threads please shut this one down.
I would think we can close up the Pre-FA thread tomorrow after deals can become official.New threads are good.
Skrub is good.
Therefore Skrub is new threads.
DangWow, the Raiders swooped in and are signing Bruce Irvin.
Kansas City outplayed Denver for 7 of the 8 quarters they played last year and Oakland won in Denver. Still a lot of moves to be made, clearly, but Denver probably won't be the favorite come September.I hope Denver's enjoying this SB victory because Oakland and Kansas City are no joke. Combined with Denver's FA losses, the AFC West may be in serious transition.
He was the defensive player I wanted the most, though I am not sure I am going to like the price, since they had to outbid the Jags.Wow, the Raiders swooped in and are signing Bruce Irvin.
don't the Raiders still have Richard Seymour? He was the defensive player I wanted the most, though I am not sure I am going to like the price, since they had to outbid the Jags.
This probably means they chose to overpay Irvin now rather than wait and pay for Aldon Smith. With no Justin Tuck around to keep Aldon in line, this is the better path. A 3rd down pass rush of Khalil Mack, Denico Autry, Mario Edwards Jr and Irvin sounds quite nice.
He retired 2 years ago.don't the Raiders still have Richard Seymour?
Yikes. No thanks.Rick Stroud says Doug Martin is going back to Tampa. Multi year deal worth $6.85 million per year.
Would have been really nice for Jacksonville to grab him up. It's just been assumed they would get Jackson, Irvin, and Vernon. Maybe they move on to Trevathan now?He was the defensive player I wanted the most, though I am not sure I am going to like the price, since they had to outbid the Jags.

Too much money for a RB.Rick Stroud says Doug Martin is going back to Tampa. Multi year deal worth $6.85 million per year.
This seems to reinforce your thought:It is interesting how three of the four teams with the most cap room and need - Oakland, Jacksonville and Chicago, all have coaching staffs that have significant Denver or Seattle roots and many of the quality FAs out there come from either Denver or Seattle. As a Raider fan, I am pretty confident that what ever stopping point they had in the Malik Jackson bidding was well informed by Del Rio's opinion. Conversely, I hope that Ken Norton Jr knows something Gus Bradley doesn't about Irvin.
To that point, I think Trevathian is very likely to wind up in Chicago with John Fox.
Houston drafted him so he had no choice there but then he chose buffalo for a ton of money and now Miami. I know the game it torture on their bodies and blah blah blah. But you'd think at some point a guy who had already made significant coin would at least factor the chance to actually win games into his decision? I totally get it for guys that have one and only one chance to cash in, but Mario Williams is not that guy.Ian Rapoport @RapSheet 1m1 minute ago
The #Dolphins deal with pass-rusher Mario Williams should come today, sources says, and it's expected to land him $8M per year.
don't the Raiders still have Richard Seymour?
I'm sorry, the judges were looking for "Seymour is inactive"He retired 2 years ago.
I wonder if what the Jaguars and Raiders did represents a new method of team building. In the early years, spend minimally on free agents, and build through the draft so that you have talented but cheap players, hire a coaching staff to develop those players, hit on a starting QB, but maintain the frugal approach to team building, carrying excess cap space forward each year, and then in about the fourth year, use the built up cap space to extend your in house players early to extend the savings, and go all in on free agency to address holes in your roster. It is interesting how three of the four teams with the most cap room and need - Oakland, Jacksonville and Chicago, all have coaching staffs that have significant Denver or Seattle roots and many of the quality FAs out there come from either Denver or Seattle. Did TJ Yeldon die? I know you need more than 1 guy back there, but that seems like a place they could have spent a bit less money.Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter 5m5 minutes ago
Former Jets' RB Chris Ivory is expected to sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars when new league year begins, per league source.
Also, Travis Benjamin apparently signed with the Chargers.Rand Getlin @Rand_Getlin
I'm told LB Rolando McClain has agreed to a deal that will keep him in Dallas with the #Cowboys.
Pats weren't going to pay 8 million a year for a WR especially not one that isn't a number 1.Michael Silver @MikeSilver 5m5 minutes ago
Marvin Jones told me it was a 'stressful decision' & that he ultimately chose the Lions over the Patriots and Bengals @nflnetwork
One of their favorite plays last year was to run Toby Gerhart at the goal line instead of Yeldon, even though he was predictably stuffed all the time. Makes me wonder if they don't love Yeldon, or maybe they love him but aren't in love with him.Did TJ Yeldon die? I know you need more than 1 guy back there, but that seems like a place they could have spent a bit less money.
Why? He doesn't actually have to catch the ball just draw PI calls for Flacco. The Raven's rumored interest in Mike Wallace is both predictable and hilarious.
Backup plan: someone under contract with another team.Ian Rapoport @RapSheet 12s13 seconds ago
If the #Broncos lose QB Brock Osweiler, expect them to come after QB Colin Kaepernick. That appears to be their backup plan.
That's why it was a stressful decision. Less money and a chance to win, or more money and DetroitPats weren't going to pay 8 million a year for a WR especially not one that isn't a number 1.
I bet it wasn't far off from $8 million though. My guess is that the Patriots offered him $5-$6 million. That's why it was a stressful decision. Less money and a chance to win, or more money and Detroit
