There have been rumblings of a trade of DE Wilkerson and his $15.7M cap hit for a first round pick. That would open up enough space for a hypothetical Kaepernick trade.
Seems like wishful thinking on the Jets part. I would be surprised if teams are lining up to give up a first round pick for the right to sign Wilkerson for over $15 million per year, especially with the DL depth in this year's draft.

A mid or late round pick might be feasible.

Starks would be a nice sign if its short money

Competent back with a little bit of versatility in the passing game

Compared to Jenkins, that is a good, if not great price and a nice two year commitment. Smith is the same age as Josh Norman (29) and at 6'3" with long arms and decent feet, is a perfect fit for the Seattle type system that Ken Norton Jr. runs.

Man, I really enjoy having Reggie McKenzie as my team's general manager. It aint quite getting the greatest QB of all time to take a 33% paycut, but he has done some nice work in the first two days. I imagine the Raiders fill the safety position, sign a left tackle like Donald Penn or Kelvin Beachum and then go bargain shopping. They still have to spend about $15M just to make the floor, so they will be signing 2-4 more players.
Penn, Weddle and an Arian Foster type to split carries with Murray. Then go DL and CB in draft and we are in fantastic shape.

great move by eagles, trading him saves a dead money hit from cutting him. I can't imagine the pick is anything of note. Like a 7th if he starts every game

For the same reason that trading Chandler Jones for a pick makes the Pats a worse team. They are losing a GREAT player and who knows what the 2nd rd pick becomes.

The Jets got nothing out the TE position last year. Complete goose egg. Bennett fills a significant need for them (53 catches and 3 TDs last season) and, as noted, the Jets have very good depth on the DL.

Wilkerson is the best player in the trade, for sure, but from a needs perspective, I think the Jets made out nicely here, especially when you factor in the second round pick.

Edit: Just read that was a fake account. Cue Emily Litella.

Right, I mean, I would actually make the same trade for Chandler Jones, then let Bennett walk after 2016 and get a comp pick. But that would also make the Pats worse, on paper, for 2016, and with Brady's window closing, each year is important.

If the Pats did not have a viable TE, I don't agree that it would make the Pats worse on paper. That said, it's ALWAYS tough to trade the best player in the deal, so I understand your point.

And that said, are we arguing about a fake deal?

Jets have alresdy lost Snacks, and Sheldon Richardson is another screw up away from a long vacation. I'm not seeing great depth there. Wilkerson was the best player on their team.
Hear, hear. Leonard Williams is obviously talented but enormously unproven. Without Wilkerson, they would be relying on some unknowns to re-stock the clear strength of their defense. It's not out of the question, but it's a tall task.

Pretty much, yeah. Even with Gronk I'd love Bennett as a TE2
