Syncing gmail calendar with desktop Outlook

How do I get my iphone calendar, with my business account hosted through gmail, to sync to my Outlook calendar on my mac desktop?
 
I'm sure I'm not asking this question precisely, but I want my iphone and my desktop to sync up when I make changes to my calendar on either one.

My way will be somewhat unique, but I use the contact-only Salesforce (like $5/month).  It then use that as my read-only contact and calendar repository.  It syncs down to all instances of Outlook using the Salesforce sync (manually set to be one way).
 
Salesforce integrates with a shitload and you can also get a Calendar for gmail plugin.  So just get that working and you should be all set.

Bumping this because I'm currently in calendar function hell.

I've setup my Gmail on Outlook using an IMAP config. I don't care whether Google Calendar or Outlook Calendar is my default and the one I actually use (i.e., I'm happy to copy one to the other and go from there), I just want to be able to add appointments on my laptop app and have it sync to the Outlook app on my iphone. I just spent an hour with Microsoft support but they couldn't offer any solutions. This shouldn't be that hard, but maybe it is? Halp for this luddite please and TIA!
