Sigh.
The team was outscored 34-13 in the 2nd quarter. They scored 3 points in the first 6:00 of the 2nd quarter. It was a terrible quarter. Shit, there was a half court set where Simmons was trying to attack the basket and Redick ran into him. In a playoff game! They were awful.
Do you think that Brett Brown, Ben Simmons, or anyone else went into the locker room and said and said, "Gee, we got the brakes beaten off us in that quarter but it's ok, we won 17 in a row!!!" Did the team deserve a standing ovation after laying a massive egg in that quarter? C'mon. The fans were obviously frustrated with the effort and they let the players know about it. And guess what? It was OVER after that.
In the 2nd half, the crowd was again fantastic. They were engaged, loud, and rooting the team on from the start. Did you watch the last quarter of the game? It was absolutely electric in Wells Fargo. When they cut it to 2 with 4:00 left, it was the loudest I have ever heard the Center. They were trying to will this team to victory, and were doing that for the bulk of the 2nd half. I was there for game 1 and 2, and the crowd was super supportive and behind this team, save for that one minute last night. I didn't boo last night, but I was frustrated with the effort as well.
I get that Philly is a winter sports natural rival for Boston, and it's fun/chic to shit all over Philly fans, but this "incident" is an absolute non issue.
