Changed the title from 'Done With California?' since I still think the Dodgers are the favorites to sign him.

The original tweet seems purposely sensationalist. I think the likeliest explanation is just that he already had (or will soon have) his surgery and is done for the year.

I would be surprised if that is not the case. But it's kind of a shame that this couldn't have been managed in a manner that allowed their fans a chance to say goodbye to him.

Totally sensationalized tweet. Though I'm not sure what they could do to allow the fans to say goodbye. Not without admitting they have no intention to re-sign him, which is probably not a look any team wants to show its fans. Special farewells are typically reserved for retiring players, I think.

The can honor him when he comes back next spring as a Dodger.

I wasn't thinking of anything beyond announcing that he's leaving the team on a given date to have the surgery and having him DH in a home game on that date, and then leave it to the fans, who can surely understand that that might be his last game as an Angel, give him his well-deserved standing ovation at each at-bat (or his first and last).

Problem is that he's been out the last two weeks with an oblique strain. Presumably he's cleared out his locker because it's been determined that the oblique is going to keep him out for the rest of the season, not because he decided to have elbow surgery (though he probably will).

If he is definitely getting elbow surgery, he should be getting it ASAP (and should have already since the Angels have been out of it for a while).

Maybe someone finally talked some sense into him.

I did not know that. That being the case, the doctor is correct, he should have already had the surgery.

That's tough for the Angels fans, but I'm guessing they won't have to travel too far to see him playing with his new team next year.

I am smitten with Ohtani. There’s never been another player where I switched over a Red Sox game to another team to watch his at bats. Maybe McGwire, Sosa, and Bonds during their HR chases but that was different.

I really hope he goes to the Giants or some team I don’t feel gross rooting for.

Since he definitely needs the sugery and can't play anyway, he might as well get on with it, but the time table for returning from Tommy John surgery this time of the year really won't make a difference.

Still kinda weird that you wouldn’t be with the team regardless.

I get that it’s a worse shit show than the Red Sox but man, you are the face of the franchise. Hang out, watch some games, hand out some high fives, sigh a few autographs.

Ohtani basically said, “Fuck it, I’m outta here.”
