It appears former Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr will become Red Sox first base coach.

My first thought was that DDski pulled a Tyrion to see who in the FO might give away FO moves to the press, and this news reveals Baird as the mole.soxfan121 said:This is clearly Allard Baird's fault.
It's odd certainly but it's not like he has been a front office guy his whole life. He was a major league baseball player, not a very good one but most coaches aren't. As a previous poster said he was a teammate of Farrell in Cleveland. The front office thing obviously didn't work out for him, he wants to become a field manager and this is his first step towards that goal.sfip said:I'm as stumped as anyone. The only logic I could think of, and I wouldn't even suggest it's likely, has to do with Davey Lopes. The Phillies were outstanding at SB and SB% during at least a good portion of when Lopes was the Phillies' 1B coach. Maybe they feel Amaro understands enough of what Lopes taught the Phillies about baserunning back then. If Amaro uses a stopwatch to time pitchers' throws to 1B, it's also what Lopes did.
Mind you, I'd say this is 3% likely at most. Desperate times, desperate measures.
You were listening to 98.5 as well, yea?RedOctober3829 said:Ruben Amaro has already traded first base for an older and more expensive one.
Well I assume they chose him for a reason esp knowing the headlines.glennhoffmania said:I think the better question is why does that make him a good 1B coach?
