I feel like many of you didn't read the post referencing the NHL rules (rule 602 for those interested). There is indeed a penalty for intent to injure. I've never seen it used/called, but it's certainly in there.
It's not quite the same, but you can get ejected in baseball for throwing at a guy and missing. Is there a material difference here?

I’m guessing if you did something that was clearly an intent to injure, and nothing else, the rule would apply. Practically speaking you’re going to have a hard time penalizing a player under that rule for an attempted hit. I’m trying to think of a scenario where it would clearly apply (and can’t come up with anything).

I mean he extends his elbow in the direction of his head. Is that not enough?

Trying to call that in the moment while guys are at full speed and determine if his elbow is going to hit his head and be illegal or shoulder and be clean is insanely difficult.

Oh I fully agree it would have to be assessed on replay.

Edit: replay is weird in all sports. Like, if the NBA could do it correctly, Murray should have been ejected.

But both leagues are a joke. Both guys should be suspended. Neither will be (already confirmed on Murray).

If that’s the standard you’re going to be penalizing guys for it every playoff game. Can also give a penalty every time someone swings their leg out to make contact as a player makes a move to avoid a hit.

I kind of take the intent to injure rule as an "outside the flow of play" thing.

Like a two handed slash that misses 5 seconds after the whistle or some similar situation.

I think Trouba was legitimately attempting a really dirty play on this one, but I don't see how it could have been called in this scenario, since 1) it was in the flow of play and 2) he completely whiffed (and almost ruined his own night in the process).

This Rangers - Hurricanes game is getting officiated so differently than the game last night you would think you were watching a different sport.

Trouba could literally shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and get away with it. I mean he knocked out Crosby in the playoffs with a cheap shot two years ago and crickets.

Is anyone else getting outrageous joy at the thought of Yankees/Rangers fans during the third period last night? And right now for that matter?

“Please don’t be the 2004 Yankees…I can’t take it again!!!”

Wash, rinse and repeat.

They’ve done a great job of that the last 30 years.
Heh shows you much they've sucked for all that time that they couldn't be rescued. I mean if that puck doesn't hit Fetisov's skate in 1994. ..

But the Canes have to win this. Otherwise it's time to root for the meteor in the ECF.

Rangers look cooked.

Still some hockey left in this series, but it's weird how 3-0 leads seem much more precarious in hockey than in the other sports.

Canes are really crafty. If the Bruins advance, I think Rangers would be better.

I thought Carolina was known for defense this year. They look like the Avalanche out there.
