Possibly, but I asked Judge because he is in the industry and was looking for more behind the scenes type reasons over what you posted.
Not to answer for Judge, but you're already onto the answer here. Media/entertainment is fickle - TV, radio, sports, you name it... Its a 'what have you done for me lately' industry and the only way to increase listenership (or even just maintain the status quo) consistent bits like this need to be produced or risk hands turning the dial. So while no one talks about the Sheen thing now (like no one will talk about this Canseco thing in three months) this is the type of stuff that is going to maintain the listener base. What does all of this running around really do for the show? Charlie Sheen was awesome but no one talks about it now.
I can't see how either of these really help the show, is the idea that if they can bring a few new listeners in that they might stick around?
I meant to come in here and post this when I got to work, his Tommy Heinson and Z Cavarichis imitation had me cackling in the car.Fred was cracking me up ad libbing over those old NBA songs, which were funny unto themselves. "Hi, this is Tommy Heinsohn for parachute pants"
The late 60s Celts' broadcasting team (66-67 through 67-69) was Heinsohn on play-by-play with a host of color men, usually Red (of course Red made Tommy sound like Mr. Objectivity).I meant to come in here and post this when I got to work, his Tommy Heinson and Z Cavarichis imitation had me cackling in the car.
I hadn't heard 1 2 3 4 5 Sixers before - I hate the team, but the song is outstandingI meant to come in here and post this when I got to work, his Tommy Heinson and Z Cavarichis imitation had me cackling in the car.
Missed a bit of it, can't wait for the podcast to be up!Getting Tanguay to read "50 Shades of Grey" (aka Mommy porn)......... :rolling: :rolling:
I'm hearing this now. Wow, this is weird. This call is one of the weirdest things I've heard on the radio. Guy called up and sounds like he's either going to kill himself or kill his girlfriend and wants to talk it out to Fred on the air, now the guys mom is on the phone with Fred.
Yeah, kind of surprised they replayed that.I'm hearing this now. Wow, this is weird.
It was a curveball. I went from laughing at the Krispy Kreme guy, to wondering whether I was going to hear an on-air homicide or violation of a DVO.Yeah, kind of surprised they replayed that.
Kripy Kreme guy had me rolling though, Uhhh Too Much Cheeeeese.
Delusional. In March, I asked WEEI program director Jason Wolfe about Toucher & Rich’s bomb-throwing.
“Sticks and stones…” he said in an e-mail. “If listeners want compelling, entertaining, and smart sports talk, they’re going to listen to Dennis & Callahan.”
T&R are a terrible fit if The Sports Hub wants to set itself apart as an alternative to EEI. They have six or seven bits that they do over and over and over and over and over and over. Only Fred seems to care anything about sports, but he doesn't ever say anything insightful or interesting. They're like D&C except exchanging misogyny for racism.
Again - Toucher & Rich are already on at the same time, competing in the morning drive. They are simply moving down the dial. It's possible that their ratings will go up when they drop the crappy music and get some big promotion out of the new network, but it's still them against D&C.
JMOH hits the nail on the head:Toucher & Rich come off as casual sports fans at best. This morning show could be a trainwreck, especially when Dennis & Callahan are interviewing Terry Francona or Tom Brady and Toucher & Rich are countering with their drunken Red Sox recap bit.
Rocco pipes in:Toucher and Rich are big-time hockey fans. Even when they were Atlanta they were hockey guys and they have Aaron Ward on Wednesday (which was a fun listen). I don't think that they'll have much of a problem talking sports at the D&C level.
I agree with you and Dalton for the most part........but are you sure you want to throw Dickerson in there? He's WICKED passionate about the C's and from what I can gather, he does his homework. Now I'm not saying he's a legit talent for a radio gig, but I absolutly put him on a different level than Tanguay.
As for Felger, it really depends on the show/topic. If he's doing "schtick" he fucking sucks. If he's talking passionately about a topic he knows a bit about, say football, he's actually pretty good.
What this station needs is Mad Dog to completely fail at Sirius and pay him big bucks to come here. He would destroy the big show.
Other than that, your gonna see more of the same........this new station will probably but up more of a fight than others past, but they'll likely tumble in the end. EEI is just a fucking god damned monster.
Felger won't stand for this and good call. Bad phones = hang up;.The other thing that he won't have (I hope) is the Stupid Show's bizarre choice to (seemingly) prefer that callers who get on the air be shockingly stupid. Look, I know it's somewhat self-selecting. But if someone calls them up and slurs, stutters and can't get to an incorrect point (that could be expressed in 10 seconds) in under 2 minutes, they probably shouldn't go on the air. It's pathetic to hear some of these people who must've flunked out of elementary school. Maybe these are the only people who can make Glen Ordway feel intelligent. But it's crap to listen to. The level of discourse should be above the median of the audience not in something like the 20th percentile.
It seems more like a slow news cycle. The Sox are still early in their season, the B's are out, and the Pats are still far away from camp. Plus having Scal in the studio is never a bad thing. So it's been two seasons? Doubtful that they'd only agree to a two-season deal. So you can throw that idea out the window.
Especially with Scott fucking Foster reffing tonight. So ... T&R are urging fans to prints and wear Tim Donaghy masks at the game tonight. Here's hoping they have a ton of them to pass out outside the garden and that people actually wear them. It would be tremendous.
@FredToucher
Yeah. But I just feel bad i messed up all the thomas contract stuff the AM. Whoopsie RT@DirtyWaterBuzz Are you catching this media brawl?
Gresh made the same mistakes in the afternoon -- not a good showing by the station that built itself on the backs of Bruins coverage. At least he acknowledged it becuase for something that had been out for a few days he sounded idiotic, especially considering the ramifications weren't difficult to comprehend and 98.5 is the Bruins Flagship so you would expect him to know more.
Like I said Wallach didn't help any, but you would think Fred would have an intern give him a quick 2 minute run down before he took the call or formed an opinion.
