He's the exact fit for this team. Big, strong skater to put on Krejci's line. Get it done, Theo.
He’d fit, but I fear the package going to NYR.
Steaming toward the NHL trade deadline with a bushel of assets, there was growing belief around the NHL Saturday night that the Rangers and Boston Bruins could be closing in on a deal for rental winger Rick Nash.
Rangers GM Jeff Gorton, who was the Bruins assistant GM prior to coming to New York, is believed to have multiple offers on the table for Nash, 33, who will be an unrestricted free agent July 1.
An NHL source said that the deal could happen quickly, but that it was not imminent as of Saturday evening.
The Bruins, as reported by The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun Saturday afternoon, made a significant offer.
For it to work for the Bruins, the Rangers will have to eat a significant portion of the remaining amount of Nash’s $7.8 million cap hit. Even then, Boston would need to create some cap relief to fit Nash onto its roster.
Boston was also believed to be interested in Rangers captain Ryan McDonagh, who has one year left.
I'm gonna puke if the Bruins get Nash. The price will be too high most likely.
Edit: the Bruins are a season or two early, there's no need to blow it up for this season.
If it doesn't detract from the current roster I'd back up the truck. A big wing who can control the puck and finish is exactly what the bs need
If nothing else I can't wait to see the jerseys
Beat me to it.
I'm out on this. I can't stand Nash as a player and think he'll disrupt more than he'll help, especially as a rental. And I don't think there's any way to clear enough space without affecting the current roster.
I'm ok with making a move in general, I think the current roster is showing a few minor cracks and an addition will help. But not a major one and not at the cost of a big shakeup.
No idea what the price is for Nash, but if it's reasonable I'm in favor. A first and someone like JFK/Frederic is my wild ass guess with a couple more minor pieces to make the salary work.
Don;t want to trade JFK or someone better. I agree with TFP. Good chance he'd be a distraction. Rather just for someone else (honestly, not sure who), who'd be a little less skilled but cost less in terms of prospect quality and who'd fit into the locker room better.
Has he even reduced his tendency to pick up stupid penalties at bad times?
I do not care for this idea. Nash is living on reputation and I wouldn't pay the rumored price.
Agree. I'd like to see McDonagh if we are going to make a big move for a Ranger. If we are going to get Nash it should be a low cost move or we should be dumping some salary in the deal.
Not yet official yet because the trade call with NHL has not happened but BOS and NYR have a deal in place for Rick Nash. Return to NYR expected to include BOS first-round pick and prospect defenseman Ryan Lindgren, but there are other elements to the deal as well.
Bruins are good enough to justify this and the cost isn’t terrible. I’m on board.
(Now watch it be worse)
If it’s only a 1st, Lindgren, and scraps - I’m cool with it.
At that price I'm happy with the deal. Nash is an underrated two way player. Interesting to see how the lines shake out after this
This certainly increases the expectations of the teams performance this season.
It’s ECF or bust now.
Rangers retained 50% of Nash’s salary. Huge.
Hearing Rick Nash deal is done. He’s a Bruin.
If those reports are true, I am good with is trade as well. Actually, I'm excited by this trade. Good job, Sweeney.
Ya this is not bad. It seemed a 1st would go in any iteration and lindgren is unsigned and one of 11,000 promising LHD prospects. There has to be another shoe here, though, as the cap number still doesn't work.

Nash has been told he's been traded to Boston.

Confirmed: Nash to Bruins.
With @TSNBobMcKenzie reporting that the #Rangers will retain 50% of Nash's cap hit ($3.9M), and with the #Bruins current $491,370 in projected cap space (equivalent to roughly a $2.2M total cap hit), a player(s) with a cap hit of $1.7M must also be part of the deal going to NY.
Gotta be salary going to NYR.
We’ll see where the dust settles, but I think this is a good move. He’s not going to be asked to carry the team and he is still a good player.
Spooner in the deal too
Looks like Spooner going to Rangers. This is basically the trade I proposed a couple weeks ago.
Official trade: Nash for 1st rd pick, 7th rd pick in ‘19 Lindgren, Spooner, and Beleskey.
Getting out of the Belekskey deal is huge but losing Spooner makes them a Krejci injury away from Riley Nash 2nd line center and that's terrifying
I think this is a good trade. Spooner is probably the only piece going out that stings. Even still, I think they sold high.
Bruins retaining 50% on Beleskey per Ty Anderson
Loooove getting out from Beleskey. Think Nash will be a huge help on Krejci's line. Don't love losing depth up the center. I'm probably higher on spooner than most
This is awesome
Yea not as in in love with the deal now that Spooner is in it as well. He was really putting it together this season and seems like a good kid.
Great trade by Sweeney. Getting rid of Beleskey’s deal and keeping all good, young NHL talent on the roster. Spooner was traded at top of his value and I don’t think was in their long term plans.
My feelings as well.
Quick take on the NYR-BOS trade: From a lineup perspective, BOS effectively traded Spooner for Nash. Nash likely a fit on 2nd line with Krejci and DeBrusk. BOS likes it 3rd line of Riley Nash-David Backes-Danton Heinen, so Spooner not a fit there and he’s not effective 4th liner
So are we seeing Riley Nash or Rick Nash full names spelled out on their jerseys?
Backes can play center.
There’s no way Cassidy would break up the top line, right?? No way he’d do Marchand-Bergeron-Nash and DeBrusk-Krejci-Pastrnak, right?
It’ll just be Nash and Nash. We had 2 Miller’s a year ago.
Logistically, if Bergeron can’t go tonight they need to get F to Buffalo. Two of Nash can’t get there for game time.
Here’s some analytic work on Nash. I think this is a good trade for the Bruins.
Nash will be available tonight in Buffalo.
Rangers may be looking to flip Spooner.
Spooner wasn’t gonna play center for them again anyway. It’d be Backes or Czarnik next up most likely.
I do agree that C depth is a concern but I don’t think Spooner was going to help there either way.
Love it. Spooner was a pending FA, Beleskey a failed experiment and costly, plus needed someone on wing for top six minutes that can score. Worth a roll of the dice and worst case scenario I do not think the team loses anything for the run and the playoffs.
Could roll with Nash on the top line or Krejci line:
Marchand -Bergeron - Pastrnak/Nash
DeBrusk - Krejci - Nash/Pastrnak
