Oh ok. In this initial comment you did not seem to have much enthusiasm about the choice. Guess we can't decipher feeling from a computer screen. LOLSmiling Joe Hesketh said:At least it's not Frank Wren.

About as perfect an outcome as we could have hoped for under the circumstances.
Boston fan's way of saying that's OK.richgedman said:You disappointed in the hiring? Why?
This is the kind of thing that makes me legitimately believe that none of this was ever about Cherington. They needed a guy for Lucchino's baseball ops role and Henry clearly loves DD. Ben became collateral damage.Savin Hillbilly said:In the words of Jane Austen, this seems like "the happiest, wisest, most reasonable end".
I agree that Dombrowski keeps making the Sox' decision to hire him look good. Here's to the next golden era.
Amen. The fact that Hazen seemed destined to get a GM somewhere else this offseason makes it even better. i would hate to see "Red Sox West" forming in addition to the "Red Sox Midwest" that Theo has already built.AlNipper49 said:The is the only move that I would have been happy with. I'd imagine there was also an element of wanting a baseball guy specifically to provide more oversight on baseball ops though, which is an indictment on how Cherington has performed.Laser Show said:This is the kind of thing that makes me legitimately believe that none of this was ever about Cherington. Either way, though, I'm pumped by this news. May the next 5 years be the golden era we've dreamt it to be.
What does your gut instinct tell you regarding Farrell? You have good insight. I'm sure that's one of the first topics of discussion privately.absintheofmalaise said:I like the move. Same reasons people stated above. I think it also means that he's likely to keep Farrell on either in the FO or the dugout along with Lovullo and staff.

Lovullo says Sox remain 'very interested' in seeing Hazen at 1B in the spring
He is also our 1st baseman next year
Ken Rosenthal brought up a good point this afternoon regarding Torey Lovullo. If another team after the season wants to interview him, they will have to make a decision on him soon. I'm sure this scenario has been brought up internally already, so you might see some movement on this situation sooner rather than later. I think they will keep Farrell with the organization in some capacity if he is not manager given his relationship with Mike Hazen.mauidano said:What does your gut instinct tell you regarding Farrell? I wrote in an article that I thought he would make a good GM candidate with his prior experience as the Dir of Player Development in Cleveland. I still think he's well suited for a FO position. IIRC, there was speculation when he first came back that he was being groomed for the FO. I have no idea where he would fit in the FO the way it's set up now.mauidano said:What does your gut instinct tell you regarding Farrell? You have good insight. Or just to satisfy requirements
absintheofmalaise said:Dipoto was signed to a three month contract and I'd be very surprised if he isn't hired as a GM. I didn't see the press conference yesterday where he was barely mentioned, but if Baird is let go, that would create the opening in the FO for Farrell.
I agree with this.Buzzkill Pauley said:
The Sox have played better ball under Lovullo, it's not a demotion, Farrell's strengths fit that role perfectly, and he probably could use the break from grueling travel next summer, anyway.
