Do I want to pick a Canadiens player? Fuck no I don't. At this point in the draft, can I continue to keep passing on this guy just because he's a Canadiens player? Not really. The key piece of the Max Pacioretty deal, this rookie has shown that the offensive prowess he showed in the OHL was no mirage, putting up 41 points in 71 games, and finishing the season on a bit of an offensive tear. More surprisingly, he also showed himself to have some real defensive skill, as while his surface numbers weren't great, the advanced metrics showed he was better than those numbers indicated. The Penny Pinchers will tentatively put him at 3C for now, although with Elias Lindholm currently at 1RW there's definitely some lineup flexiblity and it's possible that things may be moved around a bit as the lineup develops further.
