I'm fine with it. He's a bona fide franchise player and he's 25 years old. That is what they are making now, or did you miss the Toews, Malkin and Kane deals?

They go cheap with him again and he bolts when a UFA, and then you have a fan revolt on your hands and a completely different team. They also have a star locked up cheap in Pacioretty and Price's deal is not too bad, so that helps the team cap shape.

Maybe by strict value he's not worth quite that much but I think you can even make an argument for that. He completely transforms the team when he's on the ice. They may have been able to get him for less if they hadn't screwed around and offered the two-year deal earlier, but that ship has sailed. What choice did they have?

My thoughts exactly. I don't think they'll regret this contract one bit.

I'm sorry, but thank fucking God. Some people are meant to be villains, and this guy is one of them. It would have been unnatural to see him in another uniform. He's obviously a big talent, but his contract is big enough to make him an even-money player at best imo. I will take that, and am glad I will likely never have to hear people talk about how it would be great to have him in a Boston uniform again. The hockey Gods got this one right.

I agree with you, but he's a good player and I'm bummed he's going to be staying with them. He absolutely destroyed us in the playoffs this year and lived up to his potential for once, I don't relish seeing him in the playoffs so often going forward under the new matchup rules.
