Thanks for the post. I'm working on a 20 page manuscript for a journal submission and helping someone revise a grant, so I'm pulling an all-nighter. This interview made my night.
I was at that game. I was living in KC and a Royals season ticket holder at the time. I remember it for the 'Pedro at his peak' expectations going into the game and then seeing him struggle yet hang in there. It's really interesting he remembers it as a point of pride.
Pedro rebounded in the next start vs TB with a shutout, striking out 13, giving up 1 hit. Gerald Williams HBP to lead off the game then didn't give up his first hit until John Flaherty's single to begin the 9th. The shutout only brought his ERA down to 1.68. Scary good.
