Man, you are really undervaluing Piscotty here.

Hard to get over excited about a guy OPSing under .800 in the PCL.  It doesn't exactly scream can't miss hitting prospect.

It was alluded to before...he resembles JBJ, only without the stellar defense.  They don't really need another JBJ, even if his bat pans out a bit better than Bradley's.

No, I get that, and it's fair. I edited my post to reflect that. Like I said, I think he's a relatively high floor prospect and that's pretty valuable for those 6 pre-FA years.

Here
Gruchuk looks like either a cost-controlled super-sub OF at his mid-line, and a Victorino replacement if he continues to improve. That would be a great haul for a half season of Jake Peavy, and much better than the George Kottaras return I was expecting.

Edit - Oh, that walk percentage is fugly.

Grichuk would make a lot of sense for the Cards because he's not really one of theirs.  They got him this winter in the Freese for Bourjos deal which neither team is looking like a winner on at the ML level.  The Cards have a noted preference for THEIR guys over YOUR guys, pretty much to a fault, so it wouldn't surprise me at all if they'd rather deal Grichuk than Piscotty, Ramsey, etc..

Still, got my fingers crossed that Thomas Pham is a throw in on this as well.  Outfield version of Brock Holt! in the making if you ask me.

Jesus. 96 BB in 2,132 minor league PA over 6 seasons. That's once every 22.2 trips to the plate.

Grichuk's floor would probably be replacing Gomes....ceiling is every day RF.

Agreed.

Can we keep RDLR up in the rotation? He's going to be innings limited soon. Or would he go to the pen?

If not RDLR, then some combination of Webster/Ranaudo/Wright can fill that slot.

Why are people up in arms about what Peavy said? By all accounts he's a good guy and a good team mate. Of course his "I may be traded but I don't know" comments would be that he'd be upset. What do we expect him to say? "OMG I CAN'T WAIT TO GET OUT OF HERE?!?!!"

Spoiler alert: if Peavy is traded his first interview after will talk about how much he loved it here in Boston, his team mates, the atmosphere, and how excited he is to help team X win a championship

Grichuk would be a very solid return for Peavy.  As noted above, WMBish. Or Reddick-like.  Given his power, a very useful guy to have in the OF mix (or as part of a larger future trade for even better OF power).
SSS aside (67 at bats), Grichuk has been smoking LHP at AAA this season.

Seriously? He'd be disappointed to go from the cellar to the thick of a divisional race? Why?

Yeah, and he's a country kind of guy anyway. I'm sure he likes it in Boston and moving mid-season would be a huge PIA but he'd get to pitch in the NL, in a pennant race, for a team most people agree is a strong contender.

I assume Sox want to get this done before tomorrow so they can just slide RDLR into Peavy's roster slot.
I'm not sure what move they would make if the spot isn't opened up. Workman down I guess, Felix is out of options they could DL him but I'm not sure he'd go along.

The Red Sox are prepared to trade righthander Jake Peavy according to major league sources and are engaged in discussions with at least two teams, the St. Louis Cardinals and Atlanta Braves.

In Allen Craig, John Jay, Randal Grichuk and Shane Robinson, the Cardinals have a selection of outfielders the Red Sox could consider. St. Louis is unlikely to part with 22-year-old Oscar Tavares.

So, one post up thread said his defense was poor and another said he win a MiLB Gold Glove. Glad they give as much thought to those as the real ones.

A little fuel for the rumors, Jackie Bradley Jr. not in the #
RedSox lineup. Could see him in a possible deal along with Peavy to #STLCards

Not liking this if true. Bradley needs another season to improve.

Bradley to the Cards makes zero sense from both sides.

Let Ellsbury walk (the absolute correct move) so that JBJ can take over the CF position for the Red Sox for the next 5+ years only to trade him after a half season?  Forget about the Cards, it makes no sense from the Sox perspective.

Seriously.  Doesn't make sense with the Braves, either.  Both teams have too many outfielders as is.  That's why the Sox match up with them.

JBJ not being in the lineup tonight almost certainly has everything to do with tonight's game and nothing to do with a trade.

Talk is talk, but I'm not exactly getting the vibe a deal with the Cardinals is imminent here. Tavares is a pipe dream, unless we have something else of significant value heading to St. Louis.

Taveras isn't coming back without Peavy being accompanied by Bogaerts or Betts or maybe both.  There is zero incentive for the Cardinals to trade him.  He's a fucking stud and about as close to sure thing as it gets for prospects.

Only in a world where Rick Pitino were GM would this be true, methinks

Well there's a lefty starting for the White Sox on Wed and Thur as well, so the delusion may last three days if the trade takes that long. Although I doubt JBJ sits against whichever one has the most even L/R splits. Doubtful he sits 3 games.

Also, it says "scratched" which implies he was in an then removed. That's not common except for trade or injury. Given that he was out a couple days a few days ago, does that suggest perhaps nursing a minor injury?

A Cardinals fan I've talked to believes this 'minor' (foot) injury is the same one that plagued him in the postseason last year and has continued to do so this season. Said fan "I don't think he's healthy. He has no base. Can't use lower half to drive through ball. Swing is very armsy as a result. Creates week topspin, eg. The ground ball % is way up."

Sounds like quite the reclamation project.

Has Stanton taken BP today?  Could be a three team deal too.

4 teams.

Boston sends out Peavy, Bradley and Matt Barnes.  They receive Stanton, Allen Craig and Randal Grichuk.
St. Louis sends out Allen Craig and Randal Grichuk.  They receive Peavy and Barnes.
Florida sends out Stanton. They receive Jason Heyward, Jackie Bradley Jr and a few more years of Loria jokes.
Atlanta sends out Jason Heyward.  They receive the satisfaction of knowing they helped a few other teams get better.

Danks has a slightly reverse split so maybe they want to sit Nava against the other two.

Edit: Didn't realize Nava wasn't playing tonight. Maybe they'll rotate Betts or Holt out?

He does have 2 HRs in July though. Maybe he's working through it.
