Don't forget we had a body like that practicing with the team last year who will be our starting 5 in Carson Desrosiers. He was a Top-40 guy coming out of HS, would have finished as one of Wake Forest's Top-2 Career leaders in blocked shots, has good balls skills and can stretch the defense. Desrosiers is flying under the radar big time here due to his misuse at Wake by the coach who wasn't the guy that recruited him.PC Drunken Friar said:Pascal Chukwu committed last night...havent had a big body like that in a long time. Cooley is recruiting height and length. here's hoping this helps convince Terrell and Abu to get aboard too!
HomeRunBaker said:More grapevine stuff. Supposedly Brandon Austin is getting first crack at the starting spot thought to be reserved for Tyler Harris.....Harris is pissed and his dad is irate. Desrosiers has been consistently hitting his threes all summer to go along with his protection of the rim.....he is officially Brad Lohaus which at the college level isn't a bad thing.
NoLastCall125 said:I was hoping both would commit to PC, so it sucks they didn't. Still, getting Chukwu lessens the blow and the Friars are still in on a couple of other Top 100 guys (D'Angelo Allen - #77, Ben Bentil - #91) and also Alec Brennan who would add more size at 6'10".
Yeah don't blame the school on this one at least that's my opinion. My info is coming directly from Dunn's father as I mentioned unthread. Sorry I haven't posted this earlier but have spent my limited message board time on my other private Celtics board.PC Drunken Friar said:I am very close to saying eff it and giving up on this program. The school does not support its players or coaches, ever.
I'm sure people who have an interest in PC know by now, but two freshman (one stud, Brandon Austin and a top 30 recruit and another top recruit, Rodney Bullock) have been suspended for the year for violating the school handbook. This isn't cheating, skipping class type of thing, it is for a sexual situation in which no crime was committed. It seems like a situation happened that embarrassed the priests in the higher ups and this is their punishment. They aren't kicked out of school, they can still practice with the team, but they can't play in games. WTF?
Austin has already transferred to Oregon. Bullock, it looks like, will stay.
Does anyone else have any info on this situation, more specifics? I have an uncle who knows the program well, and he said that it came down to a girl's parents found out about a situation and complained to the school. and thats what brought about this suspension.
I am certainly not saying you are wrong, but if it was really that bad why would they have still been allowed to practice with the team and attend classes?HomeRunBaker said:Yeah don't blame the school on this one at least that's my opinion. * Austin and Bullock essentially drugged a coed and gangbanged her. There may or may not be a video out there. If all the facts ever come out it could be the end of Cooley and the program as a national player on the heels of Keno's thugs.
* Dunn was NOT injured in a game as is being reported. His shoulder (the surgically repaired one from prior year) was torn during an individual rebounding drill against 6-10, 240 big man Kadeem Batts that was designed to send a message to the team that wasn't being as aggressive as Cooley liked.
* The result of Cooley's strategy is resulting in Dunn likely transferring. Dad is irate at Cooley and will need $ome major convincing to not pull Kris out of there. Dunn hasn't been attending any games since his surgery which finally is getting some play by McNamara at projo (btw he's done as poor a job getting info as one can imagine).
The chatter had started, with PC being on many national "on the rise...especially if they win Saturday".HRB -- There was a video. I'd rather not get more into it, being that this is a public forum. I've also heard that your account of the rebounding drill/injury is 100% accurate. The good new is ... Dunn was back on the bench tonight as the Friars faced off against Butler. He definitely looked like a kid happy to be back with his teammates. Hopefully this ends the transfer speculation that's been circulating for the last few weeks.
After their 4th win in a row, Saturday's game vs. Xavier looks huge. If PC can pull this one out at home, the NCAA chatter will certainly start ..
shawnrbu said:Lunardi has PC as one of The Last Four In and I believe that was before the Xavier win (His Bracketology was updated on 01/23/14). I think this might be the first time PC has been "in" since the 2004 regular season ended.

they Realllllly need to win these next two, @ Marquette and @DePaul. If they can win those two road games, I'd feel a lot better about their actual NCAA chances.
oh, i'd take 3 of 5 during this stretch, for sure. But I think if they win the next 2, they are looking at top-25 votes/sneaking in. Winning against Marquette would be huge in keeping the momentum going and keep the ESPNs and CBS' of the world talking about PCMloaf71 said:
I was thinking they need to win 3 of the next 5 games to stay in the tournament hunt (@ Marquette, @ DePaul, St Johns, @ Xavier, and @ Gtown).
Not much different than what you said but I think dropping a game @ Marquette where we have historically taken some pretty good beatings doesn't knock us out of the picture.
I think you know the answer to your last question. Your shooting guard is playing point guard because of Dunn's injury. Fortune isn't really a shooting guard. He only took six shots last night. Cotton is both the point and the shooting guard. He took his usual 18 shots last night. It's kind of sad to see a playing rotation of six guys give everything they have and come up empty. And you're right. It's not a good shooting team.NickEsasky said:There is a good chance that Providence's awful shooting is going to keep them out of the tournament this year. 41% going into last night which is last in the BE. They made a valiant effort getting back in the game, but they didn't have enough shooters to get over the hump. Hell of a game for Henton. Josh Fortune sucks. How can the worst shooter on your team be your shooting guard?

Well their inability to put the ball in the hoop put them in another hole early they couldn't get out of in the second half. This and the Seton Hall loss really hurt.Mloaf71 said:
I still stick by 3 of 5 and things are looking pretty good.
Tuesday vs St. Johns looms large. Win that and they we have 2 dog fights on the road where we only need 1.

I hadn't posted here because I had no new info. Spoke to Dunn's dad last night and Kris is definitely remaining at Providence because he loves the place and his teammates. He did also confirm that once Austin bolted for Oregon there were serious family discussions about transferring so strong that he thought he would.pdaj said:HRB -- There was a video. His dad said he was staying away from the team during school break until they decided the next step......his stepmother is alive and well. I have no idea about his biological mother who he's been away from for a decade and obviously i'm not going to ask. Kris is a very smart kid, he was recruited by Stanford, and this was mentioned along with Louisville, as a possible landing spot. It was the education aspect of Cooley's pitch that sold them on the Friars initially.PC Drunken Friar said:Great win tonight. HRB, that's some discouraging info and Dunn wasn't there tonight but I haven't heard any news about transferring. Didn't his mom just die and thats the reason he isn't back at school yet?
they got killed on switches the plays before that too, twice in a row pinkston with easy back down layups in the 2nd ot because he was being guarded by fortune giving up a ton of size and weightmabrowndog said:Awful team defense in the final seconds costs them the upset in double OT. Batts left alone after a switch to defend a guard, who flies by him on the left for the lay-up and a foul. Somebody on the Friars should have recognized the mismatch and brought help.
Good effort overall, though. Just a bit short.
NoLastCall125 said:They should have pulled out that win, but now their bubble may have burst.
On what planet is my alma mater a prospective #1 seed?mabrowndog said:
I don't think it's burst just yet. Taking a prospective #1 seed to double OT -- after losing to them by 30 six weeks earlier -- is something the committee will take into account.
That was a heartbreaking loss. On that final play, Cotton didn't fight through the screen which left Batts hung out to dry but the key was that the Wildcat player didn't hesitate to size up Batts.....instead he instinctively went to the basket immediately which didn't give our defense time to recognize the mismatch. Can't really blame Cotton at that point in time he probably had nothing left in the tank.mabrowndog said:

But they're running out of time to stem the bleeding. The next three games are absolute must-wins. So is their BE tourney opener. The regular season finale against Creighton would be huge, but they can still lose that one so long as it isn't an embarrassment. Yes, I'm serious.
The BE will likely be sending 5 teams to the dance. Nova, Creighton & Xavier are locks, and St. John's is solidly the 4th at the moment. All the contenders for the 5th spot -- PC, Marquette & Gtown -- have scuffed through rough stretches. PC's just happens to be happening at the most inopportune time. But they only have 4 conference games left. Marquette has 6 including Creighton at home tomorrow, Nova away, GT & SJU. The Hoyas have 5 to play including Xavier & Creighton at home and Marquette & Nova on the road. There's a shitload of basketball left to be played, but the Friars have fewer land mines to navigate.
If PC takes care of business while the Warriors and Hoyas falter, things will fall into place so long as they don't pull a one-and-done in the BET. If history tells us anything, it's that the selection committee loves strong finishers.
I am hopeful but I really don't see how. We haven't had anything remotely close to a quality win since the 3rd week of Conference play! A major factor in these finals spots is how a team has produced most recently. I feel we need to sweep these final 3 which includes a win at Creighton to have a shot.Mloaf71 said:Still hanging tough in the latest bracketology. Bubble looks weak so 20 wins including BET may be enough. 21 and we're a shoe-in.
If we win at Seton Hall, who just gave Creighton a hard time, we might be in OK shape.
Yea, huge game. Should be the best crowd of the season. Georgetown is beating Creighton right now, which isn't doing us any favors. I still think that they need 22 wins to get in. Man, those DePaul and Villanova losses hurt big time now.shawnrbu said:Huge game at The Dunk tonight against Marquette. I think the at large chances are sunk with a home loss (Last Team Out according to Lunardi as of 03/03/14). A win and the team still has a chance to finish as high as 3rd in the Big East.
And BOOM!! The team that won't go away!! Amazing game and yes that Villanova game right now is what is separating us from being securely in the field. We need a big win and have that opportunity to get it at Creighton.PC Drunken Friar said:Yea, huge game. Should be the best crowd of the season. When these "experts" have us as last team in or last team out keep in mind that is our best case in the event that there are no conference tournament automatic bid upsets that bump others into the field. There are usually at least a couple teams who get knocked out from this so being the "last team in" right now means we likely will have to pass 2-4 teams to actually make it.
