It makes sense other than the fact that Hoyer sucks; that game he started last year vs the Chiefs was replacement/scab player level bad during the strike year, Hoyer is beyond terrible.
If a team chooses to carry 3, he's a great 3rd QB to be able to mentor Jones. But Agree he's a very weak 2It makes sense other than the fact that Hoyer sucks; that game he started last year vs the Chiefs was replacement/scab player level bad during the strike year, Hoyer is beyond terrible.
Isn’t Hoyer unvaccinated too? Complicates the quick return somewhat as well.If a team chooses to carry 3, he's a great 3rd QB to be able to mentor Jones. But Agree he's a very weak 2
Was there ever a reputable source for this rumor?Isn’t Hoyer unvaccinated too? Complicates the quick return somewhat as well.
There are a few articles from late June, if you google "Brian Hoyer vaccination", that speculate his job is in jeopardy because he refuses to get the vaccine. Clearly his job wasn't in danger given how this played out, but this combined with him wearing masks is likely confirmation of his status. It'll be interesting to see how Bill tries to get a 3rd QB, or keep someone close by. Is Stidham's injury status confirmed? Last we saw was, I believe a 3 month timeline that would have him returning in late September? Was there ever a reputable source for this rumor?
He's a vested veteran so he is not subject to waivers. If I was Miami, I would claim Hoyer. Of course, they won't because they should want to optimize their roster but it would be great gamesmanship.
They'd have to sign him, which would mean that he'd control whether he went there, something he might not want to do if he's inclined to come back to the Pats (assuming that's the plan). If I was Miami, I would claim Hoyer. Hoyer doesn't go through waivers because of his veteran status. Another team can try and sign him but he is a free agent. If I was Miami, I would claim Hoyer. Of course, they won't because they should want to optimize their roster but it would be great gamesmanship.
BB actually has a fairly long leash when it comes to young kickers.I am stunned on Nordin. It is such a high profile spot to have that much uncertainty. If he works, then I give a ton of credit to the Pats scouting, development and coaching. Frankly, I thought it was a joke when they invited him to camp. He was not very good with Michigan.
Yeah, I forgot, AV was here before BB. But in BB's first 2 years here, AV wasn't very good either. He went 81.8 and 80.0% in BB's first two seasons, and honestly, there wasn't much reason to believe he'd get better. Through 6 seasons at that point, he had averaged 80.4% on 199 field goal attempts. What does AV have to do with BB?
FG% has increased steadily over the last 20 years and low-80s FG percentages were above average at the time.Yeah, I forgot, AV was here before BB. I remember he missed that kick against KC that, IIRC started or accelerated the wheels coming off the disastrous 1999 season.Yeah, I forgot, AV was here before BB. It was after that 2nd season that he obviously made the kicks in the snow, and in the SB, and then he comes out the next season and leads the NFL at 90.0% in 2002.

Which is from a tweet, which is from Some Guy.A report from UStadium stated the following: "He won’t be allowed to be physically present in the meetings room and will have to join remotely. Something to watch."
Possibly the lowlight of Adam's Pats career, but the wheels didn't truly come off until after the bye a few weeks later. Pats would have been 5-0 if Adam had hit that chippy to beat KC, but they were still 6-2 heading into the bye. They lost six of their next seven, finished 8-8, and that was the end of the Pete Carroll era.I remember he missed that kick against KC that, IIRC started or accelerated the wheels coming off the disastrous 1999 season.
I thought either Wilkinson or Zuber would stick. Also that we're apparently going with 4 wide receivers (plus Gunner, who I refuse to grant WR status until he actually catches something).
To SMU's point, they almost have to be in the FA market at those two spots, right?
Decent chance both those guys (or one and Nixon, or all three) sticks on the practice squad, and they can promote one if they need another body on game day (as they did with both Wilkerson and Zuber last year).I thought either Wilkinson or Zuber would stick.
I expressed some concern about Bryant's roster spot when they traded for Wade, but I imagine he'd be a candidate to bring back as a practice squad guy.Looking back at an eventful day...I'm somewhat surprised that Miles Bryant got cut, given the general stinkiness of the back-end options at that position.

They still might when everything is said and done. I'd think at least one is a likely practice squad target if they don't pickup any other WRs.I thought either Wilkinson or Zuber would stick.
The ability to put someone else on IR without losing them for the whole season. What do they gain by cutting Hoyer now?
Anyone on the 53-man active roster after cut downs (ie, today) can be placed on IR, and anybody placed on IR can be designated to return. So, I think a player who is on the 53-man roster after 4PM today can technically be placed on IR as a transaction effective tomorrow and can be DTR at any point thereafter (provided they player misses at least three games). When can they put someone on IR-DTR? I thought they had to wait until after week 1, but they obviaouly aren't going into week 1 with one QB..
That’s a pretty well-balanced roster. Exciting that Cajuste made the cut. Here’s the current 53 per Reiss, although obviously things will change. 4 core ST guys doesn’t seem like something that will last.

click through, twitter cropped the image. That isn't 53 guys and doesn't account for Bethel, Slater, Bailey, Nordin (and King?).
Okay, that makes sense.click through, twitter cropped the image.
He’s not any more.Okay, that makes sense.
There are 54 guys on this roster (whereas there were a lot more a few hours ago). Which one doesn't belong?
EDIT: Looks like Terez Hall is on the Pats' web site roster and not on Reiss's list.
Oh wow! Are you the Pats roster web site intern? He was deleted in essentially real time. He’s not any more.
OK, so anyone teams put on IR before they cut down to 53 is done for the year, but afterward players can come back. That makes sens and would explain cutting Hoyer today.Anyone on the 53-man active roster after cut downs (ie, today) can be placed on IR, and anybody placed on IR can be designated to return. If a player is placed on IR any day during camp up through today, like Jennings, he’s out for the season and is ineligible to be DTR because he wasn’t on the 53-man active roster when he was placed on IR. They could be placed on the PUP list if they were already on the PUP list, like Gilmore, which makes them eligible to return after six weeks.
Re Hoyer and vaccination:Isn’t Hoyer unvaccinated too? Complicates the quick return somewhat as well.
Maybe barely above average. In 1998, AV was 17th in Field Goal %. In 1999, he was 18th. In 2000, he was 15th. In 2001, he was 13th. Then he finished 1st in 2002. Then he finished 24th in 2003.FG% has increased steadily over the last 20 years and low-80s FG percentages were above average at the time.
(FG% has actually increased steadily over the past 60 years or whatever)
