If only we get so luckyCrowded LB room. Wonder if Bentley is shipped off to Houston.
Maybe he already has, and it's just taking him too long to reactCrowded LB room. Wonder if Bentley is shipped off to Houston.
This was quick and well done. Bravo.Maybe he already has, and it's just taking him too long to react
That’s really great. He seems like a fun guy. I remember him in the lockerroom after the “I’m seeing ghosts” Jets game. A reporter told him that quote and KVN was in disbelief. “He said that?”
In addition, I like when good players ( don’t have to be great) players come back.I like it when the Patriots acquire good football players. He’s not elite but he’s absolutely rock solid.
That's the football version of a 3-point shot & a flagrant-1.Friendly reminder that the Pats are not only getting Van Noy back this year, they’re also getting a 4th round comp pick this year for losing him last year.
That he’ll play less unless he gets better? Still utility in having a pass rusher who plays special teams.Hmm. What does this mean for Winovich?
Yep. I also assume Winovich and Uche get run in 3rd and 6+ situations. Neither were great at setting the edge, but both were decent at getting pressure. Winovich and Uche are good at pinning their ears back and trying to get at it.That he’ll play less unless he gets better? Still utility in having a pass rusher who plays special teams.
Don’t forget Hightower! I also think they might be hoping to have Uche actually transition to an off the line role, at least in base.Yep. We have a group of guys that all have roles. Judon+KVN as base/edge guys, wino and uche as pass rushing specialists.
Uche was at his best last year playing ILB. Let him run around and make plays instead of having to play on the edge. He should be great at blowing up the A gaps on blitzes or walking him up on the edge on passing downs. Playing him alongside Hightower in a 3-4 would be perfect for him.Yep. I can't convince you, but I can tell you that another year in the offense, with Cam throwing to significantly better pass-catchers (at WR and TE) and run-blockers (at TE) should give him a better pocket and more time to throw.Somebody convince me that Cam has another stretch of really good play in him, because the rest of this team looks absolutely loaded to me. I love this signing. KVN is exactly the kind of consistently productive pro that fits in perfectly here. Very glad to have him back.
I'm coming around on this line of thinking. I was as critical, and as much in the anti-Cam camp as anyone by the end of last year. But I have to believe Bill and the staff saw things in Cam that I didn't, and would not have committed to bringing him back unless they thought a true, full offseason, and considerably improved weapons around him would make a difference on the field this year.I can't convince you, but I can tell you that another year in the offense, with Cam throwing to significantly better pass-catchers (at WR and TE) and run-blockers (at TE) should give him a better pocket and more time to throw.
Cam probably starts week 1. If he's starting week 10 you'll be happy with him -- either a rookie or a vet through a trade will replace him by then if he's bad (or Hoyer or Stidham, but I'm not convinced either of them would do any better than Cam).
BB isn't here for a rebuild: he wants to win again, now. He wants to get past Shula, and I'm sure more than anything else, he wants another Lombardi. If he think Cam's the guy who can get him there, he'll use Cam. If he isn't, he won't. Last year was a mulligan year for a lot of reasons; this year isn't.
The Miami fans here might know better but to me his signing in Miami always had that “guy who flourished in a certain system that a new team expected too much from” feeling to itThis is clearly great. I am sort of curious about Miami's angle here with the cut? Just about the cash?
Yet his numbers were exactly in line with what you would expect. He had a pretty darn good season in MiamiThe Miami fans here might know better but to me his signing in Miami always had that “guy who flourished in a certain system that a new team expected too much from” feeling to it
I gladly read your takes over Volin and Bedard every day of the week.Imagine a base defense of Wise-Godcheaux-Anderson up front with Judon-Uche-High-KVN as the LB/edge guys. Dugger as the rover. DMC in the back. Gilmore and Jackson on the outside.
Nickel, you take Godcheaux and Anderson out and put Wino and J Jones in. Dime, take out High and put Phillips in. Want to go heavy against, say, the Titans? Put Jennings in for Uche. Want to go lighter against a running QB? Phillips and Dugger in at LB. Lots of versatility now.
