Just to catch up, the Sox signed 6th round pick Steve Nogosek for $250K, a bit below the $281,100 slot. They have also signed 10th rounder Santiago Espinal, but the numbers aren't released.
So far, they have signed 4 of their top 10.
2nd: Chatham: got 1,100,000, slot 1,232,800. "savings" 132,800
6th: Nogosek: got 250,000, slot 281,100. "savings" 31,100
7th: Scott: got 10,000, slot 210,700, "saving" 200,700
9th: McClean: got 10,000, slot 168,400, "savings" 158,400
Total "savings" so far 523K
Unsigned:
1st: Groome, slot 3,192,800
We have a whole thread for Groome, but obviously he's the big question mark. Reports that he wants $4 MM minimum, he has the leverage of going to JuCo and re-entering the draft next year.
3rd: Anderson, slot 697,300
4th: Dalbec, slot 501,300
Both college juniors. Both participating in the CWS so I wouldn't expect them to sign until after they are eliminated and probably not before the entire tournament is over. I would expect Anderson to come in under slot, but of course he may also decide he wants to start for a year now that the Gators rotation is clearing up a bit with the draft. I do wonder if Dalbec will take a chance and give up his leverage in the hopes of having a better senior season. He was an anticipated top ten pick this year, but slumped badly. What that means for what it takes to sign him is anyone's guess. Dalbec can also pitch. I expect him to be right around slot.
5th: Mike Shawaryn, slot 375,500.
Shawaryn fell due to mid season struggles. If it was possible to draft college sophomores, both he and Dalbec would have probably been 2nd or 3rd round picks last year. What this means for how much it takes to sign him I don't know, but I suspect he will come in a bit over slot, like the $400-$450 range.
8th: Alan Marrero, slot 180,300.
Maybe the Sox developing Christian Vazquez will get him to sign rather than go to school. I expect the Sox will want to stay well below slot here, so Marrero's choice is all about where he thinks he'll develop.
10th: Santiago Espinal, slot 157,200.
Espinal is a JuCo guy. He has signed, I bet for something close to the slot number. It hasn't been announced, but there is a pic circulating of him at his locker, presumably in Ft. Myers (he's injured)
