8 PM infuriates me. They say they want kids to enjoy the game, but most of them need to get to sleep sooner rather than later. They couldn't have opening day in the daytime?

Tonight's game is all about ESPN and their money.  Tomorrow is Opening Day for the masses, complete with daytime start times.  Besides, how much crap would MLB be getting if they had games on all day Easter Sunday?  I seem to recall it being a bit of a controversy the last time ESPN's opening night was on Easter.  Haven't heard much to that effect this year.

I will be in Philadelphia tomorrow afternoon for the real opening day.

On a side note, I hate opening up with inter-league match-ups, though admittedly a lot of that is because it forces Napoli to sit, and he has been red hot this spring.

Jon Lester still needs a personal catcher.

I'm wondering the same thing. It seems like ESPN's games are always blacked out, but today's game is not on MLB's published list of blacked-out games: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/official_info/broadcasts/national_wkend.jsp.

Gotta be a mistake, right?

According to this tonight's game isn't.

Thanks!

Not looking forward to Maddon managing with NL rules and the inevitable "Dah Red Sawx didn't want Lestah" meme rearing its ugly head throughout the broadcast.

It amazes me that this is a given, since Ortiz is still cool following his flu and Napoli is hot hot hot. Why not have Ortiz rest up or pinch-hit in a crucial spot later in the game?

Because the lineup on Opening Day isn't about match-ups. Farrell has already stated Ortiz is getting the start.

From the New Yorker on the new rules:

Once a hitter enters the batter’s box, he will be required to keep at least one foot in the box until the end of his at-bat. The foot cannot be prosthetic; it must be attached by musculature to the hitter’s body. Hitters may leave the box under certain circumstances, including a wild pitch, a play on the bases, or catching on fire. In the event of an at-bat that lasts for more than three hours, the player can be brought water and snacks. If a hitter dies of natural causes, he may be removed, headfirst.

Three timers will be placed in all Major League stadiums. The first will count down the number of seconds that have elapsed between pitches; a second will track the minutes between innings; and a third will tally the hours of game-watching that the fans will never get back as they march inexorably toward death.

The unfinished bleachers is terrible to see for a Wrigley Field game but I like the tarp with Ernie Banks idea the Cubs did in the interiem

Edit: didn't realize tarp was only photos of Banks

I'm still reeling from having to hear Fall Out Boy on the field. This year has been the worst ever so far.

When if ever does Theo start getting more heat for the way he left? The Rizzo trade is going to look worse and worse over the next few years.

Oh, I hadn't thought of that. He's like 0-41 in his career counting the playoffs. Over under on his first hit? Before the end of April?

Yeah but this is his third organization and he's only 25, he can't be good!

I'm so glad the first pitch of the year was shown from behind home plate so we couldn't really see it cross the plate or anything.

Napoli has been pretty good for the Sox. Besides, they can always bring him back, Hanley-style.
