Ok what was your favorite Red Sox September of all time?

This one could be the hardest because there are so many. And there were also some we don't want to remember, lol (2011,1978,1974) There are many 88,86,90,2013,2003. In 04 by Early September we knew they were in the playoffs so that wouldn't be one-IMO. For me it comes down to 90 and 03. One they had to win the division the other was for a wild card spot. My choice 1990. Early September they were 5 or 6 up I believe, but less then 2 weeks later I think they were tied or behind. I remember losing to the Indians the last week but the lead staying at 1 1/2 because the Brewers beat the Jays. They saved us. And of course capped off by that wild Friday night game against the Jays capped off by Jeff Stone's only Red Sox hit. They clinched it in October on Brunansky's catch. That Jeff Stone game is one of my favorite all time Red Sox games. That whole year was also fun and crazy. Win 8 in a row, lose 6 in a row. 1967 is as good as any September, but I try to not go with the obvious. But if 67 is your favorite I can't argue. I was only ten so I couldn't stay up late like my teen and adult years. If I had to say what was the happiest it was 86. They pulled away by the 2nd week winning 11 in a row and I kept pinching myself, they're going to win the division, they're not going to blow it.

Pre-devastation euphoria: the first three weeks of September 1991 and the last two weeks of September plus October 1, 1978. A combined 27-6 record. Also the 9-2 run during the last two weeks of the 1975 season and the September 1972 run previously mentioned in the favorite August thread. For those old enough to remember August and September 1949, from what I read in the Summer of 1949, seemed like quite a run.

If you're old enough, and I am just, this isn't a question. You mention it, but 1967 was a September that started with the Red Sox in first place by a half-game, never had them take the lead alone again until the last day of the season, never had them fall more than a game behind, had them tied for first nine different days with three different teams (including all three on one day), included a Red Sox player trying to win the triple crown, and it was for the actual pennant. Oh, and the Yankees were in 9th place.

Recency bias and it obviously ended poorly (1-5 in their last six, and 1-8 with the ALDS sweep) but I really enjoyed September 2016. 19-10 counting the two October games, and an 11-game win streak where they bludgeoned the Yanks for 4, BAL for 4, and TB for 3. Awesome highlight in a good season--AL East title and all.

Like I said nothing was more exiting then 67. I was just too young to stay up late and watch or listen to games on Channel 12-Providence or WHDH radio. I forget what Providence radio station they were on. Was it WPRO? If I was a little older 12, 13, 14, I would have appreciated it more.

Yes, 1967. 16-11 record (including the finale win on 10/1). Only real disappointment was the beginning of the final week dropping two to the Indians, which could have been fatal.
One oddity- the Sox only played 4 games the final week- Monday, Thursday AND Friday (very odd) were off days. And the Tuesday and Wednesday Indian games were day games! Probably based on the premise that the team would be bad -might as well play in the daytime and get the games over with.

TV coverage- remember there was a midweek game or two added to the schedule (at Detroit) but most of the games had to be listened to or gone to.

Here's an underrated last month that sadly ended in Tiger Stadium. 1972. 22-10 including October games. Yaz finished strong after hitting practically no homers until August (due to a hand injury). Dwight Evans came up from the minors for the last 2-3 weeks (believe it or not he played LEFT field not right) and showed his enormous potential. And Luis Tiant came back from the scrap heap and went 11-2 after mid-August.
I was 21 that year and had bought my first car...so for the first time I could drive in when I wanted to. Maybe that's what I remember most about that year! Oh, and in those days you could just walk up to the window and buy a ticket- just about ANYWHERE in the park.

Remember it's your favorite. There is no right or wrong answer. Some of our members may be too young to remember some of the 60's @ 70's teams. I do remember the 72 team and their charge. They were a mediocre team until Late August. I always look at the 1973 team as a disappointment because we thought they would use that as a springboard but the O's were just better.

Tie. 1967, first time in my cognizant life I saw contending baseball in Boston.

2004. Family members blown out of home by Hurricane Charley (Florida). Other complications in life at the time for us. The race, the ALDS/ALCS/World Series in October were a great panacea when my wife and I needed it most.

The Red Sox and the Orioles lost the same number of games in September 1973. Unfortunately the Orioles played four more games that month than the Red Sox. 17-11 was a respectable Red Sox September record. Here is the highlight game that month played 44 years ago today. It's a nice memory.

I always liked Mario Guerrero, especially vis-a-vis Luis Aparicio, a great player who was way, way over the hill by 1973 (and still playing).
