It’s pretty impressive that this is even a thing. There being legitimate build-up for a professional sports league to release their schedule 4+ months in advance is quite the accomplishment for that professional sports league. I hate that it is the NFL and Goodell and all of the fucking scumbags that run it, but it is still impressive.

It's especially impressive when you take into account that half the schedule will be subject to late or last minute changes.

Going to guess Texans @ Chiefs for the Opening Game in Week 1.

Stroud and Mahomes first matchup, large media market that had been desultory for a few years, plus the Texans loaded up this offseason (adding Diggs and Mixon). Doubt the league wants to burn Ravens @ Chiefs that early. Bengals @ Chiefs would be fun, but with Burrow's wrist injury recovery I wonder if the league will stay away in the off chance that he has a setback? Could see the argument for Chargers @ Chiefs to showcase them and Harbaugh's first game, but that team is a bit of a question mark and the offense doesn't have much star power outside of Herbert with Ekeler and Allen plying their trade elsewhere.

As a reminder, here's the Pats opponents. They play the AFC South (in Jacksonville and Nashville) and NFC West (visiting Arizona and SF).

Home
Buffalo Bills
Houston Texans
Indianapolis Colts
Los Angeles Chargers
Los Angeles Rams
Miami Dolphins
New York Jets
Seattle Seahawks

Away
Arizona Cardinals
Buffalo Bills
Chicago Bears
Cincinnati Bengals
Jacksonville Jaguars
Miami Dolphins
New York Jets
San Francisco 49ers
Tennessee Titans

It's even more impressive when you take into account that we already know every single opponent and it's just the order and times (subject to change) that gets released!

I think the increase in interest in bestball fantasy football is a key driver here. Understanding bye weeks and week 16/17 matchups is critical for BB and there are tens of thousands if not more people playing BB these days. Underdog has a tournament that will pay out 15M in prizes and that is just one of the dozens of contests they will hold leading up to regular season.

I think it’s much more than fantasy that drives the schedule interest but YMMV.

Honestly I couldn't care less. I mean, if they come to the DC area I'm happy because I can probably go see them. But I think a lot of this interest is fabricated by the betting/fantasy sports industry.
I play fantasy sports. But I don't bet on it. I think a lot of fantasy football comes down to injury luck.

Ravens at Chiefs TNF opener
Interesting. I thought the league was smart to make last year's opener Lions @ Chiefs, giving the Lions a national platform. Ratings are going to be pretty good for the opening game no matter what especially with continued TSwift connections (right?), so this year I would have expected the scheduler makers might have wanted to feature a team like the Texans or Chargers that needed a little attention boost.

Also, at the risk of sounding like Abe Simpson yelling at a cloud, I find Week 1 games to be pretty sloppy, especially since training camp has become mostly a non-contact walkthrough affair for many veterans. I'd be more excited to see a game like Ravens @ Chiefs later in the year.

Thanks for this! It's a little too early for a W/L prediction (we don't even know who the Pats QB will be for any of these games), but right now Vegas has the Pats W/L over/under at 5.5, and looking at this list to your point it's hard to find 6 games (or even 1, 2, or 3) that I feel confident will be a Win at this point.

Bengals-Chiefs at Arrowhead Week 2 on CBS has been announced. That makes the Bengals a near lock to open at home with the Reds out of town, and there is a decent possibility it's the Pats as three of Cincinnati’s home opponents (Ravens, Browns, Eagles) already have games.

Jets at 49ers is the first MNF game.

Pats wise, over or under 13.5 1:00 games this year?
They play two West Coast games so that’s two non-1:00 starts right there. I think they’ll stumble into two more. Then again, the Texans played 16 straight 1:00 games last year before the Week 18 flex.

This could be right! As I've said elsewhere, given the uncertainty on the offensive line and Maye's ongoing development (footwork, etc.), I'm fine if Brissett starts most of the games next year.

And I hope Belichick's fate doesn't turn on the performance of the 2024 Patriots. The guy's boat is named VIII Rings for a reason. Although it would be painful to see him on the sideline in a Cowboys sweatshirt next season. Bleh.

Pick #1? OK. You guys are going to be stuck at #32.
Also lol.

Malik is probably the best Bengals insider so this holds some weight. He’s also reporting Raiders-Chiefs on Black Friday.

Guess my early Christmas present plan to get my parents in St. Augustine tickets to see the Patriots play wasn't so clever after all.

Pretty sure Netflix is getting NFL Network games. More people will have access now. The NFL has always let OTA simulcast for local markets as well.
