where the darn libs live
WC:
KC over Houston - KC is playing great, even with a weak schedule. Houston's D is real, but KC has some real talent on offense.
Cincy over Pittsburgh (only if DeAngelo Williams doesn't play) - If Williams doesn't play, Pitt's fucked. If he does, they probably win this game running away. So, yeah. There's my caveat.
Seattle over Minnesota - I think Seattle's going to end up in the Super Bowl.
Washington over GB - Washington's offensive is clicking, Captain Kirk is on fire, and GB looks like they couldn't beat the Titans.

DR:
NE over Cincy - I don't think Andy fucking Dalton or AJ fucking McCarron can come into Foxboro and win a game. Sorry. Edelman + Gronk + Amendola + healthy defense is too much.
KC over Denver - KC could have two wins against Denver this year very easily. They aren't afraid of coming to Mile High and they have the kind of defense that can swallow the Broncos whole. I don't think they're a great team but they're in a great matchup.
Seattle over Carolina - I love this Carolina team, but I think Seattle's the best team in football right now and they're getting Marshawn Lynch back.
Arizona over Washington - Should Arizona lose a home game to Washington, I'll be mildly shocked. Washington's offense is on fire right now, and losing Mathieu is only going to hurt more and more as the competition ramps up.

CC:
NE over KC - I could see this game going either way to be honest. KC's pretty damn good, and their kind of defense will give the Pats some issues. Still... Alex Smith and Andy Reid winning in Foxboro? I just don't see it happening. This is just a gut call - my heart says Patriots, my head says it's a coin flip.
Seattle over Arizona - Seattle is just too good.

Super Bowl:
Seattle over NE - I hate this, but it's how I feel. Ugh.

CAR over SEA - Most interesting potential matchup of the first two weeks to me. CAR is locked in as the Sun 1pm game. For SEA this would be a third straight long road trip and a second straight 10am body clock game, against a 15-1 team off a bye week. Expect CAR to be undervalued if this matchup comes to pass.

AZ over GB by a ton, again.

KC over PIT - PIT finished the year with consecutive (short) road trips. Divisional would be their 4th straight road game, AFCC their 5th. They have to run out of gas at some point.

AZ over CAR - Been waiting all year for this game.

AZ over KC - Too good at too many positions. Best and most complete team with the better coach in this matchup.

Wind chill supposed to be -20 to -25. Holy smokes. That is significantly colder than the Pats-Titans 2003 game, and that was really really really cold.

Like the last couple years, I've built out my spreadsheet tracking everyone's picks.

Will post how we're all doing throughout the playoffs.

As usual, I'll score it as 1 point for picking a winner.

This will hold even if you mess up the seeding (i.e., put a #6 seed against a #2 seed). If you pick the #6 to win in that scenario - and the #6 beats the #1 - you still get the point.

If folks that just picked the SB want to build out their brackets, I'll include you as well. (Looking your way, @bankshot1 , @j44thor , @pk1627 , @amarshal2 , and @bsj ).

I feel confident about the entire WC round and I feel confident the Pats can take out KC and that Zona will take out GB. But, Denver-Pitt will be an interesting game and so will Carolina-Seattle. Ultimately, I think this Denver D can handle Pitt's offense and Pitt won't be able to stop the run, opening up the pass game enough. Carolina-Seattle is close to 50-50 for me, but Cam is just playing at another level right now. Pats-Broncos and Panthers-Cards would both be absolute battles (Hawks-Cards would be too), but I'll take the 4-ringers over the ponies and again, I think Cam is just too good right now. EXCEPT, Collins can handle Cam in space, the Pats have the rush to get home with 4-5 guys, and the Pats O will get it done against the Cats.

I see a lot of people picking KC to go pretty deep which surprises me.

That 10 game win streak of theirs only includes victories against 2 winning teams and the rest of it was against chumps. Their Week 7 win against Pittsburgh was with third stringer Landry Jones starting at QB (and throwing 2 picks) and their Week 10 win @ Denver was the game where a one-legged Manning threw 5 completions and 4 picks before being benched. So neither of those wins were against full-strength squads either. The other wins were against Detroit, SD (x2), Buffalo, Oakland (x2), Baltimore and Cleveland. Not exactly world beaters.

On top of that, KC has the longest active playoff losing streak going with 9 straight losses.

I like Houston and if KC does squeak by I don't see them making it any deeper than that.

Isn't this true for almost every team in the AFC? Pittsburgh certainly didn't play the 86 bears every week. The pats best wins is against Pitt in week 1. It's a weird year.

If Pats are moderately healthy, they should win. But I wouldn't be shocked at all if big Andy got the Chiefs to the SB.

In no way am I saying that the Bengals will win the SB, but I'm surprised they are the only team to not get a single vote so far (excluding whichever of the two teams wasn't picked in the Hou/GB/Was category).

They held their own vs good teams as I noted up thread, and they had the 3rd highest spread in the NFL. Their 140 spread was just 10 points fewer than New England's, and they had a much tougher schedule.

Even without Dalton they have been competitive. The only game they lost by more than 4 points all year was vs the Steelers. That doesn't really help my point given the match up, but this was a pretty damn good team.

Does it really all have to do with Marvin Lewis and the paper tiger thing?

Every year is the year Cincinnati supposedly gets over the hump. And every year, they lose. It is hard to back that record of futility in the playoffs.

Wild Card Round
Pit over Cin - Not sure that Cincy can put up the 20-25 points at least that they will need
KC over Hou - Hou is a nice story, and I think they have a shot at home, but that QB/Oline combo is scary
Was over GB - Was didn't beat many good teams, but GB lost to some bad teams, and Was offense is hot
Sea over Min - This one will be surprisingly close, I think Minny is up for this game, and that cold...

Divisional Round
NE over KC - That defense is scary against this Pats Oline, but I think the Pats can handle the KC offense at home, win a close one
Den over Pit - Brock almost beat the Steelers in Pitt, so I think that in Den the Broncos should take care of a Steelers team that will have gotten knocked around by Cincy
Car over Sea - Probably the game I most want to see. Should be a tight one, but I can't see why I would assume that a Car team that beat Sea on the road will lose to them at home
Ari over Was - I don't see how a well rested Ari team loses to Was in Ari, outside of some freak plays probably the easiest game to pick in the whole playoffs (in my hypothetical)

Championship Games
NE over Den - I think that if both teams are as healthy as they are expected to be in two weeks, NE is a little better. Obviously having to go to Denver isn't ideal, but I trust Brady in the 4th quarter of a close game more than Manning
Ari over Car - The most balanced team is probably the best equipped to beat the Panthers on the road, and I think that Car's easier schedule finally shows up in this game

Super Bowl
Ari over NE - Mainly for the reverse jinx. I think the Pats could definitely be competitive in this game if they get healthy and on a roll, but I don't expect perfect health from now until then.

My predictions are exactly the same as pk1627's, right down to the 'horrid call' part.

The AFC wild card games are the two picks I feel most solid about:

Cin over Pitt
KC over Hou
Wash over GB
Seattle over Minn

Den over KC
NE over Cin
Car over Sea
Az over Wash

Den over NE (due to last second horrid call)
Car over AZ

On the assumption -- huge -- that we're healthy, chalk pretty much:

WC

KC over Hou

Cin over Pitts (drought over, close game)

Sea over Minn (ultimate wild card game with the weather; Sea wins primarily because nobody is used to it so talent wins out)

Wash over GB

Divisional

KC over Denver (yeah they are good, and Blandino/Commissioner thumb less evident than if it were NE at Dev)

NE over Cinn

Car over Sea (they are good too, as we shall see)

Az over Wash

Conference

NE over KC

Car over Az (too much Cam)

SB

NE over Car, 27 to 24, winning on the last possession with a FG, Ghost caps an excellent season and joins the pantheon.

NE trucks nobody offensively throughout. Championship earned substantially by the defense, ball security, solid special teams, and clean efficient play by TB.
