Oh my god, that’s terrible. When my friend’s roommate was gang raped walking home from the train, they got her in pretty quickly, but then spent hours asking what she’d done to make it happen. This was 3 strangers in an alley. Then she killed herself. So, I guess my point is - could be worse!
I mean, just once it would be nice for the league to be tough on these terrible fucking people. Once. One of these days, the NFL is going to have to death penalty one of these rapists/child abusers. Rookie punter seems like a good place to start.
Gotta believe that’s as of [some time after news coming out but before they’ve had a chance to convene and decide what to do]. There’s no way they can let him play, right? It’s preseason so WTF are they losing anyways (not that that should be a consideration)?View: https://twitter.com/ByTimGraham/status/1562967338126692353?s=20&t=m5QvUdJs0FSBWjI5JIl-Dw
Are the bills really going to play him?
After the browns shitshow?
good lord the NFL makes the NCAA/IOC/FIFA look like saints.
I think early tomorrow we’ll get the inevitable “in light of this new information” BS excuse for sitting him and subsequently cutting him. Aside from it being the right move (albeit late, and I find it really hard to believe this didn’t come up pre-draft), the Bills are gearing up for a big year and they just don’t need this controversy.Gotta believe that’s as of [some time after news coming out but before they’ve had a chance to convene and decide what to do]. Not to single you out at all, but this post in that placement is a darkly hilarious encapsulation of the NFL and football fandom.Quick hijack to let everyone know that the annual SoSH Survivor Pool is currently underway. Visit the thread below and put your name in ASAP if you want to buy any shares or half shares. I know a lot of you probably don't visit the Fiskful subforum often.

Yeah, I know. Honestly, I had no idea about the news today when I posted that. I just came in here and dropped it. Only after did I realize what I had interrupted. Not to single you out at all, but this post in that placement is a darkly hilarious encapsulation of the NFL and football fandom.
Isn't the Commissioner Exempt List at Gooddell's complete discretion? Or am I missing something. If Florio has this right, the league can’t discipline him under the personal conduct policy. It’s on the Bills to show him the door. Which they should do immediately. What he’s already acknowledged/admitted to is very bad. If the details are all true, it’s absolutely appalling.

Florio seems to be indicating that per the personal conduct policy, which I believe is an instrument of the CBA, the league has no power to discipline a player for allegations that occurred prior to their employment in the NFL. Maybe that changes if formal criminal charges are brought while he’s now under contract to a team?Isn't the Commissioner Exempt List at Gooddell's complete discretion? Or am I missing something.
This sounds very much like the Christian Peter draft pick, although with a longer time passing since the draft.

I agree, I would just be surprised if there's no "good of the game" clause that gives the Commissioner ability to act in extraordinary circumstances. Now, maybe the league office doesn't believe this meets that criteria, but can't is different than won't.Florio seems to be indicating that per the personal conduct policy, which I believe is an instrument of the CBA, the league has no power to discipline a player for allegations that occurred prior to their employment in the NFL. Damn, not what I was expecting when I got the fantasy notification that he was day-to-day.
I think they don't want him going to Seattle. This Jimmy G thing is really weird. Are the Niners really going to give him more than he could reasonably expect to get on the open market if they are forced to cut him? Why not force the issue and either get a huge payday for this year, or get cut and pick the best opportunity you can find?
But I can't understand why Jimmy G would go along with it unless they are willing to pay him a lot more than I think they should for being a back-up. How much is it worth it for them to spend to keep him away from Seattle? Is that a smart use of the salary cap?I think they don't want him going to Seattle.
Completely unfair opinion but does this move add to the belief that he lacks motivation and toughness? But I can't understand why Jimmy G would go along with it unless they are willing to pay him a lot more than I think they should for being a back-up. No, only because there is a lot of logic to this. It sounds like Jimmy's shoulder is something less than 100% right now. He also has had a front-row seat to the Lance show for Lance's whole career. He also thinks/knows that this Niners team might be REALLY good. His theory might be: take back-up money, get the shoulder fully rehabbed, take over in Week 5 or 6 when Lance still hasn't improved, lead the team to a deep playoff run, then sign a big $ deal next off-season.Completely unfair opinion but does this move add to the belief that he lacks motivation and toughness?
It seems nuts to me for him to give up $24mm (or be cut and choose his own path) for a $6.5mm one year deal. Bonkers. Wouldn't he almost surely do much better than this if he forced the Niners to cut him?No, only because there is a lot of logic to this. Alternatively, he doesn't play, he stays healthy, the team does fine with him on the bench, and he signs a decent-money deal to go to Seattle or Pitt to contend for a starting role next off-season.
He can't lose in this scenario unless he gets hurt again.

I'd think it's probably 50/50 that team isn't the 49ers. Either through injury or performance, Jimmy is going to get a lot of playing time this year, I think. If he ends up leading a good SF team deep into the playoffs and finishes healthy, he's going to get paid next year. There’s also a chance that another contending team will come knocking on the door, with draft picks in hand, when their starting QB gets knocked out for the season. If the Pats are say 9-2, with a kick ass defense and an average offense, and Mac goes down for the season, what would the Pats give to get Jimmy back? This would also go for other teams that don’t have at least a serviceable, game manager, back up QB.
Totally agree that the the 49ers could be one of those teams that need him. I think they’ve bought themselves insurance, while at the same time factoring in the possibility that they can get a decent return on that insurance if Lance is the real deal and doesn’t get hurt.I'd think it's probably 50/50 that team isn't the 49ers. No one has cap space left. JG might have gotten similar money in Seattle or Cleveland, but he also might not have. It could also be like the situation in San Diego when they drafted Phillip Rivers to replace Drew Brees. In a vacuum, having Jimmy is a positive.
In reality, if the 9ers start 0-3 and Jimmy looks 100% healthy and is slinging it around in practice, that is going to be a tough scenario for everyone involved.
Just keep telling Trey, yea don’t worry, just ignore the guy that brought us to the NFCCG last year. He doesn’t exist.
Or if Trey gets hurt and misses 2-3 weeks and Jimmy comes in and looks good. You immediately bench Jimmy?
I just see a bunch of scenarios where this is good for the 2022 49ers but bad for the future of the 49ers and Trey Lance.
I think it’s also a little awkward because they gave Jimmy permission to seek a trade, Kyle Shanahan said in a press conference Jimmy was listed as QB4 only because the league made them put him on the depth chart, and now he’s QB2 again and everyone is supposed to be happy. It could also be like the situation in San Diego when they drafted Phillip Rivers to replace Drew Brees.
Rivers wasn’t considered quite ready after his rookie year and Brees was coming off a solid year, so the Chargers signed Brees to a one-year deal and let it play out. (Brees hurt his shoulder that year and the Chargers let him walk. Worked out for all concerned.)
I understand the sensitivities involved, but the Niners get insurance if Lance is hurt or doesn’t work out and JG gets a chance to stay with an organization he knows with a decent shot at the Super Bowl. Seems like a positive.
I mean, he's taken them deep two out of the last three years. It kinda blows my mind that nobody wants him more than this already, and it's a little hard for me to understand why he'd be worth a big contract this time next year and not even worth a punt at this point.Jimmy G gets a decent guaranteed deal, a few more weeks to get fully healthy, and a not insignificant chance to take over as the starter at some point, lead a very good roster on another deep playoff run, and cash in next year(if he finishes the year healthy).
Oh, I’m in absolute agreement that if they could have moved him, they should have done so. I also agree that they bungled things to this point.I think it’s also a little awkward because they gave Jimmy permission to seek a trade, Kyle Shanahan said in a press conference Jimmy was listed as QB4 only because the league made them put him on the depth chart, and now he’s QB2 again and everyone is supposed to be happy.
The 9ers did not want Jimmy back on the roster. They’re accepting him back because they see the value as an insurance policy, but now you have Trey Lance looking over his shoulder again and in the meeting room with the guy that has gone to 2 of the last 3 NFCCGs.
I’m not trying to pump Jimmy up too much, but they needed to get Jimmy off the roster and sign any other veteran backup to the roster.
That is their 2021 1st round pick - #17 overall. Must have some serious issues to give up on him this quickly
