In both of his Super Bowl losses Brady led the team on 4th quarter drives to give his teams a lead
The last points the Pats scored in SB46 came with 11:20 left in Q3.
Those performances don't count against him in my eyes.
That still doesn't make "getting there" an achievement in the context of the question. What counts is the performance in the Super Bowls, but that's not what you initially said.
Looking at the performances, the offenses scored 14 and 17 points respectively in the two losses - obviously not all on Brady, but probably also not something to support an argument pro-Brady.
Looking at all their Super Bowl performances by something like ANY/A, Tom's best performances are just slightly better than Montana's worst. (Source)

Tom is the GOAT, but I don't really see how an argument can be made for him over Montana for Super Bowl QB.

Then that stat is flawed. Montanas worst performance:
14/22 (63.6) 157 yards, 1 TD, 0 int (XVI)

Bradys Best -
32/48 (66.7) 354 yards, 3TD, 1int (XXXVIII)
or
37/50 (74.0) 328 yards, 4TD, 2int (XLIX)

Yeah, that's going a little too far. But of their 10 performances, Montana has the best 3, and his fourth is somewhere in the middle. Montana's performance in XVI was also affected a lot by game-state; they were up 20-0 at halftime and stopped throwing in the second half. Montana had only five dropbacks in the second half, after having 18 in the first half.

The whole concept is silly. Yes, we can look at the statistics of Montana vs. Brady as somebody did above, but how are you going to decide that Forrest Gregg has better Super Bowls than the dozens of other tackles to play in the game over the years? More likely, voters said, "We need somebody from those first Green Bay teams, and Bart Starr wasn't better than Montana, and Forrest Gregg was a Hall of Famers, so..."

Well, you could watch film and chart every play. E.g. supposedly Art Shell in Super Bowl XI had a perfect game, in that the player he was assigned to block on each play did not make as single tackle (esp. impressive since that Minnesota team had an all-time great defensive front).

Of course, almost certainly nobody on the committee actually did that (although Shell is included). But it's not impossible in theory.

Not sure what Andre Reed did to get the pick over Branch. One big yardage game, but it was the blowout against the Cowboys. Branch had two fantastic games in 38 and 39 (and the deserved MVP in 39).

Four Super Bowls vs. two? That should count for something.
4 vs 3, actually. Branch had 3 catches for 45 yards in SB46 against the Giants.

In fact...

Branch - 28 catches, 321 yards, 1 TD, 1 SB MVP (3 games - 2-1 record)
Reed - 27 catches, 323 yards, 0 TD (4 games - 0-4 record)

Reed also had the "benefit" of falling way behind in 3 of the 4 games, meaning they were chucking the ball all over the place. I hadn't realized it, but there's virtually no argument for Reed over Branch.

Yeah, but that apparently didn't mean enough in the QB discussion (6 to 4 and all). I guess maybe it's like the Baseball all-star team selection for Reed...he felt like he had to select a player from a team that went to 4 in a row...(not saying he's exactly the Scott Cooper equivalent, since he was a great WR, but still).

With this kind of logic I am stunned Dan Marino doesn't get a mention.
