That blurb on Hurley’s recruitment of Castle is everything to me. Getting a top 10 recruit to assimilate to the team first culture tells me all I need to know about Dan Hurley, but also about Steph Castle. He gets it, man. He is exactly the type of star player I want on my team. Skilled, tough, and coachable. Wish he would stay longer.

Duke and Purdue are only teams with a remote shot against UConn due to their size to match Clingan.

UConn happened to them.

I’ll say this: 1999 Duke didn’t run through the tournament like UConn did last year and are this year.
I went and checked and you’re right, in that Duke actually had a higher average margin of victory enroute to the Final Four than UConn.

How many times did 1999 Duke score less than 30 in a half? Asking for a friend.
Oh for fuck’s sake already. I was NOT comparing the 2024 UConn team to the 1999 Duke team head to head. My post was really clear about that. I was comparing the way that people spoke about them when talking about the tournament. They called the 1999 tournament the Duke invitational and they were asking if they could compete in the NBA. Same as UConn this year. I was actually making the fucking point to be skeptical about claims of invincibility.

I am fine with the banter here however people enjoy it, but if this is meant to be a riff on my post it missed the point.

Did they ever have a tourney run where they won it all and beat every team by double digits? And then the next year go to the final four again beating top 25 teams by 30 points and again never winning by less than double digits?

That Duke team won the first four handily and then only beat Michigan St by 6 before losing to UConn.

This - and last year’s - UConn teams have obliterated everyone. The closest anyone got last year in the tourney was 13 by Miami. This year the closest has been 17 by Northwestern.

They did win every game by 10+ in 2001. But of course they lost to Indiana in the Sweet 16 in 2002, blowing a 17 point lead.
