LOLBOOHOO Sixers fans. Let RobCov hit a garbage time 3 after being garbage all game, but boo an uncontested layup.

I know you are The Needler but just curious what Covington did to you. Did he steal your girlfriend? Eat your avocado toast? Get drafted ahead of your favorite player?

I definitely don't miss seeing Olynyk awkwardly flail around the court for 30 minutes a night.

Recollecting celts win over philly earlier in january, when the celts were down by 10 or so at the half -- and came back to win by 11. I recollect the celts upping the intensity, and 76ers losing focus & effectiveness. Knd of what Miami did tonight.

Were you not watching the game? It has very little to do with Covington. He was a non-factor. But at the end of the game, in garbagetime, he hit an uncontested three, and then the Sixer faithful reacted as though the Heat had hacksawed the Rocky statue when they came back for a layup.

I like the Sixers. I'm a huge fan of Simmons - think he'll be the best player in the league, and Embiid will be not far behind him. Covington is a great defender, and mediocre on offense. I'm bearish on Fultz, and LondonSox is an incredible hypocrite when it comes to player evaluation. Don't care for avocado toast. Anything else?

Thank you. I am a huge fan. You need to post here more.

As a side note, I like the 76ers too and love Covington simply for fighting his way into the league. Their fans are another story and your take on them, ex LS who is a good poster even if he sometimes abusive, is spot on.

i have to say that for a game i don't really have any rooting interest other than KO, the MIA-PHI game was really interesting.

MIA got really physical with Simmons and the rest of PHI's shooters. I wonder what adjustments PHI will make.

Simmons was excellent. He wasn't any worse than he was Saturday.

The difference was the 3pt shooting from Philly's Five (Ilya/Saric/Cov/Red/ Bel). Those guys were 7-36 from three tonight VS. 17-27 on Saturday. They scored 30 more points with 8 less shots/possessions.

3 point shooting is why they won so easily on Saturday and why they lost tonight.

I was referring to down the stretch when they needed 3’s and he becomes a tall Rondo. You can only run so many screens for Bellinelli and Redick.

I might be missing something here; but you seem to be suggesting that Harden doesn’t get to the free throw line when he attempts a three. That is incorrect; as Harden frequently gets fouled while attempting a three and that actually drives up his his FTA per game.

Philly made some really strange defensive decisions late. Doubling the perimeter way too hard and several times leaving the easy pass into the big man in the paint for either a clear lane to the rim or easy kick out for an open three.

Saric, Ilyasova and Covington can also drain the Three. Philly has plenty of shooting.

Yes, but Simmons’ lack of perimeter game still has an impact in those situations.

I know he does. I made a post about it here about two pages ago, but the vast majority of his foul shots do not come from 3 point attempts. I'm sure if you extrapolate them out for the full season, the effect will not be anywhere near enough to make up the difference between him and everyone else. Maybe it drops to 9.5 free throw attempts per 10.1 field goal attempts, which still has him a stratosphere higher than anyone else. The other guys get fouled on 3 point attempts too, but I'm eliminating those as well.

This is spot on. In game one, the 76ers shot 64.3% on a season high (tied)/franchise playoff record 18 made threes. Tonight they shot 19.4% while taking two more shots than game one from deep.

In short, mean reversion is a bitch.

    Hassan Whiteside is gawd awful.

I guess he'll be important once Embid is back, but right now he is unplayable. He wasn't as bad as Monroe was yesterday, but pretty darn close.

I don’t see how you compare the players accurately; it’s apples to oranges when you compare 2 point attempts to FTA; while not factoring in three point attempts. Even if LeBron and Davis get fouled when they are shooting threes; I highly doubt they get fouled at the same percentage Harden does and Harden takes way more three pointers than those other guys do. In addition; I don’t have the time to crunch the numbers but I’m willing to bet that Harden gets fouled on a three point attempt in the realm of once per game; which would amount to around 3 FTA per game that are not factored into your calculation.

Also, if you are only looking at 2 point attempts, you have to factor in that Harden only takes about 20 percent of his shots from mid-range(for the purpose of this I am classifying every two point attempt beyond 3 feet as midrange) where you are less likely to get fouled. James takes about 40 percent of his shots from midrange and Davis takes about 50 percent of his shots from midrange. Not all two point fg attempts are worth the same when it comes to evaluating free throw attempts.

I’m not disagreeing that Harden may take advantage of certain rules and refereeing tendencies to get to the line; but I don’t think comparing him to other players really proves much.

Edit: Super fast google search shows that Harden last season, was fouled while shooting a three well over 100 times; and I assume in 2018 he was fouled even more because he shot more threes. Now the fact that last season he was fouled more times shooting a three than entire NBA teams kind of proves your point, though.

I’m not sure if we can assume he was getting fouled on 3-point attempts at a similar rate this season, given that the league changed the rules to thwart him doing exactly that:

    https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/...en-rule-will-impact-james-harden-this-season/

I couldn’t find stats for this season on 3-point attempt fouls, but it’s possible that they weren’t quite as large a part of his game given the rule change.

Well yes. And I think this is at least part of the reason many view it as a blatant travel. It just looks different for we are used to seeing players going towards the basket while using this sort of step. It also may be that I truly love watching Harden and I find what he does not a travesty but a thing of beauty :)

Because we all know James Harden never gets fouled beyond the 3 point line. Your analysis tells us nothing because it assumes all FTA come from 2 point shots.

    edit: this was already discussed.

Harden was at 59 as of March 21st per 538. It still was better than any individual team but of course lower than last year due to the rule change.

Kyrie/Hayward out. Cavs a defensive mess. Sixers possibly a little too young. If Toronto doesn’t get to the Finals this year, they never will.

Wall chatting it up with raptors bench during a free throw seemed odd. Like I'm sure it happens a lot but just odd when you're about to go down 0-2

I may have been wrong. This series (NO vs Portland) may end up being the marquee match-up during the first round, especially with Mitchell hobbled.
